Forum feature question / functional improvement suggestion

Wondering if it's possible to turn off / change / whatever the setting where it loads your last viewed spot in a thread.
Coming back from vacation I've found it exceptionally irritating to have to scroll up (and up, and up and up...) to get to the top and participate in the conversation again.

This is one of the best features of any forum.
That said, there should be a way to simply start at the top of a thread prior to clicking into it.

To get to the top of a thread from within a thread, you clicky on the double up arrow.
Does not help from the list view, but at least no scrolling.
*Note: I use infinite scrolling for my view, not pagination. No idea how it looks with pagination.

There used to be one link that went to the top and one to the last read, but they seem to have changed it in a recent update from what I can tell.

The topic title link always went to the topic, post 1.
The XX minutes/hours/days ago link always go to the LAST post in a thread.
Finally, when you click on the topic title, there used to be a very brief pop up that you could click on to get to your last position in the thread. What they changed was the topic title now is a link to your highest read position in the thread. There is no link anywhere that takes you from a list (unread, recent, category) to post 1 if you have already been in a thread.
