Windows 10 resets default app

Has anyone come across this issue before - Since upgrading to W10, if we reset default player for videos or music, it keeps resetting back to the Films and Music default windows 10 app....i read it was to do with an update KB3135173 but we dont have this update installed!!!
Anyone seen that before?

I've run some malware scans and found a load of issues + have also installed VLC player and it seems to be better now - but will monitor and let you know!

I know you found your solution, but just wanted to say I have not experienced any default apps resetting.
