XenServer and MDADM?
-
I want to prevent drive failure in my home lab running XenServer 6.5.
I have to re-do my XenServer install anyway. Right now everything is on 1 SSD drive. Going to move to a 16GB 3.0 USB Flash drive with 2 1TB Western Digital NAS drives. (Happen to have them on hand from another project I never completed.)
I was thinking about using MDADM like @DustinB3403 does, but I see it's not officially supported
Should I just do it anyways?
I also thought about moving to KVM but maybe that's just crazyness.

I have thought about other Hypervisors too, but the XenServer + XO combo is hard to pass up...

It's not a thing to "be supported." It's not supported because ideologically its wrong to think of support in that way.

Just because something is unsupported, doesn't mean it can't be done.
Ideally you want hardware RAID if possible. But since this is a home lab, you likely aren't buying support from Citrix anyways. Make good backups, test them, and you'll be fine.

Yes

Then there is nothing supported at all, as there is no concept of support. If you will consider that, what's the concern around XenServer and MD RAID?

Anyone have a guide I could follow? I am new to MDADM
