The big reasons that we don't want to use local image storage is because it causes issues with things like clustering. If we have a cluster of, say, five application servers they will need access to the same images, basically instantly, all of the time. That means we have to copy them to those machines or share them in complex ways with NFS or something else. We don't have an infrastructure to do that efficiently and should not, it's just not our wheelhouse.
So offloading that to someone who is especially good at it, like Rackspace which leverages Akamai is a big deal. No issue paying for that, and we are, it's just getting it all to work smoothly. We want static image handling to be separated from the application processing architecture to allow for fluid growth with the intent of handling very large traffic.

100% disassociated with NTG. Some of the same players; different company altogether.

No It's not NTG at all! Yes I am part of NTG but I am only an employee. GroveSocial/MangoLassi is separate. This is my company.
I of course hired NTG to handle all the infrastructure stuff. I have no idea how to do that.

Take it from someone that had a $1500 bandwidth bill, and had to work 3 jobs all summer long to pay the bill off
Probably the topic for another thread but... how the heck did that happen?
Trust me, we are costing companies pennies and in most cases providing them revenue as well.
And what we host, people are free to hotlink. We make no limitation there.

It's confusing here because I'm here in an NTG capacity handling the infrastructure as GS hires NTG to do that and I'm the one that does that from NTG. That causes the big confusion.

Am I going nuts @JaredBusch or are we seeing the "post that won't leave the bottom" issue that we saw several weeks ago?

All I am requesting it that we don't use images from other sites, as we are using there bandwidth, and that's not fair or the right thing to do.
I don't agree that it isn't fair or right, however I agree and have relayed to Danielle that there is an important perception there regardless and that for that reason, and for control of content and performance, working hard to get everything that we use reasonably over to Cloud Files where we get the best performance, insight and control for the long term. So we are working towards what I believe to be what you want.

No, it's confusing because the New York State Department of State has no business registered for GroveSocial
They would not have NTG either as NTG is a Delaware company, which is where most companies register in the US. Registering in NY would be weird, even for companies HQ'd there.
-
@anonymous Not a NY company. Why would I do that? That would be crazy. Our tax paperwork is in process as we are expanding and moving things around.

No, it's confusing because the New York State Department of State has no listing for GroveSocial
...cause it's not a NYS based company.

@anonymous weird, have never seen that. I suppose that is because NTG does business in the state. ML does not.
-
And your point is? That is NTG...... Not GroveSocial......

his point was that I said that NTG would not show up in NY either, but it does as a foreign company.

Grovesocial/Mangolassi are also not corporations.

That would make a difference, too. NTG is a full Delaware Class C.
