In the biggest update to the language since 2004, PHP 7 has released and is both a major update and a huge boost to language performance. This is one that the IT world has been waiting for for a very long time.

For those using WordPress, the most popular PHP application out there, it looks like the work to ready the code for PHP 7 has been completed and you can now update for a massive boost in performance.

We've done some serious performance testing with ownCloud, too, see our blog. It's fast

It's unbelievable the work that they have been able to do between PHP 6 and PHP 7. I mean it's eleven years in which to have done it so okay, they definitely needed to show something for all of that time spent working on it. But still, the improvements are just amazing and are going to make PHP so much more viable than it has been. So many products, SO MANY like ownCloud, WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, SugarCRM, etc. are going to get this insane boost. A significant portion of the world's online applications are just going to see a massive 30% or so increase in speed. Just... magically!

I wonder how much this will impact CPU investment in the next 24 months as the needs of the cloud computing world start to scale back temporarily.
Have you guys at ownCloud looked to see if there are significant changes in memory for these speed boosts? Like is more or less memory being consumed?
