Steam on Linux
-
Especially well since Linux is Steam's primary OS. They designed Steam specifically around Linux.

Cool! I haven't had a beefy enough computer for games in a few years and have been wanting to familiarize myself with Linux more. I figured going with linux as the only OS will be the best way to do that.

With Steam on Linux, am I able to play my Windows games? IE: the Fear series?
-
What most people mean by "learning Linux" and what you tend to do with a Linux desktop tend to be pretty dissimilar. Using a Linux Mint desktop won't teach you Linux any more than using Windows 10 teaches you Windows Server administration.

No, Steam is not a compatibility layer or anything. It's an account manager.

Just making sure.

@scottalanmiller It will teach how the basics of the OS work, and troubleshooting the Linux OS, from there I can move on to the server admin stuff. (I just bought a couple of HP DL385 G6's for that as well)

Will it? I use a Mint desktop right now and none of that is exposed. Just pop in the disc, it installs, done. Everything is GUI driven and transparent to me. Shows me nothing of the OS underneath.

@scottalanmiller It may not...

I have an old (6+) C2D Lappy with Xubuntu.
It plays Worms quite well. Not sure what else I've tried as I only really use it when I go wandering away from home for a night or more.
