Water Cooler question
-
The only source of any audible noise is from the two fans of my H75, which had to be mounted outside the chassis because of the god-awful case I chose ( which I may try to return ). My question is, CPU temps seem to hover at around 24-31 C at any load I throw at it ( I keep my apartment very cold and have fans blowing at me, semi-toward the case )... Is it totally insane to just turn the water cooler fans off and watch the temps to see if they get much higher? To make it dead silent?

Do the fans make that much noise?
-
I work at home all day w/ my girlfriend at a shared desk, and I'd say that while not loud, they're very audible, whereas in the t110.2's original case it was dead silent. So I do notice it, and it does bother me.

Looks like the mobo comes w/ a tuning utility that lets you cycle down the fan levels. They were both on 10. As soon as my apartment's AC stops being loud I'm going to toy w/ the levels and see how that affects audibility.

Normally they do. You've got to have one seriously silent machine for them not to be at least annoying. Even my MacBook Pro is too loud for what I would like.

Right as I said that, my MacBook got loud and is loud enough to be heard over my conference call with headphones on.

Oh god. Don't remind me. My retina MacBook Pros were by far the loudest computers I've ever used.

Yeah, and they are ALWAYS running hot.
Try using one down in Panama!!

If you turn the fans off, it'll die. However, if they're PWM's, you can control them in BIOS. Maybe set the curves for temps to be a bit less aggressive?
-
Setting the fan levels to 2 instead of the default of 10 has completely remedied the noise without any observable impact on CPU or motherboard temps. I'll keep monitoring throughout the day. Problem solved. Thanks all.
My table-top AM06 is now louder than the 8t Xeon powering 3 1440ps across the desk from it. We'll see if that changes when the GTX 970 gets here in the next few hours.

I forget which model has the high static pressure that is ideal for liquid cooling, but one of these (or 2) will cure your noisy issue.
Edit: It's these ones - get 2 for push/pull if you want super quiet low rotation speeds.

Next question!
Can anyone recommend any subtle little accent lights that can be installed inside the case to illuminate certain parts of it through the side glass?

Hahahaha, I'm not sure my CX750M can handle it.
-
@creayt for sure, it's only 17amps at 12v haha - you'd have the brightest case in the land.

Maybe I'll just kidnap a bunch of fireflies and trap them in the case.
