Voip Codec Question
-
Hi,
i have a question about voip codec frame size if you dont mind.
if i increase frame size of voip codec G711 from 20 to 40 ist going to make any different. i mean the voice quality will be better

I think everyone is on vacation this weekend! I will email my PBX team and see if someone will answer you

Not really. when you increase the frames per packet, you have a higher chance of latency issues, and a higher chance of audio quality/drop out issues do to lost packets (as they contain more data).
The only case where it would improve anything is if you have enough bandwidth but, your router can't handle enough PPS to get all the frames in more packets out quickly, and more packets also uses more bandwidth (to a very small degree) due to packet (as well as other) overhead. So it doesn't really increase call quality but if for some reason you are having issues with more packets/less frames per packet. balancing it may help the call experience but not the call quality.
If you are wanting just to increase call quality you'd change the G711 kbps. 64kpbs is the normal but there are higher bit rate options as well, keep in mind the bit rate needs to be supported on all ends (Phone, PBX and SIP Trunk/Provider) to actually operate at the higher bit rate. Otherwise it will be negotiated at a lower supported rate.

thanks a lot

Technically, smaller frame size will get you better quality when you are having issues. Bigger frame size is to reduce the bandwidth just a tiny bit.
@thecreativeone91 is correct. If you want better quality than G.711 (standard telephone) then you need to move to HD audio codes like G.722 and others.

Also worth asking, why do you want your phone system to carry "better than telephone" audio quality?

I'd love to know what kind of PBX you have, if it is onsite or hosted, and which provider you use for SIP trunks.

its voipswitch hosted in a server
