So my first starting point suggestions are:

      • Pursue the passport, don't let England and Ireland be lost as options. Tons of Spaniards fine work in the UK.
      • Go to Malaga or Mabella and look for English speaking work. These are big resort cities that cater to English speakers. They are beside each other.
      • Look for work teaching English in Spain. This is HUGE. I know that Madrid is loaded with these jobs and AFAIK is one of the most accepting cities in Europe.
      • Get to a wealthy EU country (Germany is best) and find crap work doing what Germans don't want to do, like picking grapes along the Rhine.
      • Try to find work waiting tables in the UK.
      • Look into college options. Germany will likely pay for him to attend college. Yes, Europe does this.
      • Look for work on a farm in the north. I know my friends were able to do this in the Netherlands no problem. YOu work the farm and get room and board (no money.) This is very common in Europe. If they start hitchhiking they could pretty easily turn being homeless into being travelers.

I'll have my friends in Malaga in the morning who have been in Europe for months with basically no money. They were in the UK, then France, Belgium and the Netherlands right now and will be in Spain living with us by tomorrow. They will have some ideas, I am sure, about what to do living cheaply around Europe.

Oh, another thought, there is a huge hippie commune in Órgiva. Hitchhike there. Lots of people with no money and they all seem to do well there.

This thread was great. Not often on the internet you hear great advice, and somone willing to listen to it.

              ^ Meme from The Illusionist?

That crowd-fund page needs a lot of work, too many holes in the idea.

Well hopefully they will take some feedback and work on that. It might get better.

Would be great if we figured out their exactly location. I've been all over the region this morning. For all you know they are minutes away.

This thread makes me want to visit Europe, specifically Spain. Sounds like its decent if you know where to go.

Spain is truly an amazing country. And gorgeous. Here are more than a thousand pictures of the last month here.

Beautiful. It looks similar to some areas of Italy. I am sure visiting Spain is lower cost than visiting Italy.

Both are cheap, but yes Spain is cheaper. My favourite region of Italy, Piemonte, is not expensive at all. But my time in Italy is mostly north (expensive) and in Spain is mostly south (cheap.) If you did the opposite I think you would find Italy cheaper. Both countries have big, rich cities and generally rich norths and general poorer souths. Spain's Andalucia (where I live) is super low cost. But Italy has Sicily which is super cheap.

We are working through options for these guys on a separate channel. Turns out, they are a full day's WALK away from me. I can nearly see them from where I live (there is a hill directly in the way.) They are "living" just a few minutes away from our large grocery store.

I wonder at the organizer really. I just read both this and the first. Seriously, WTF is this person thinking. Ignoring all the stuff that has been stated in this thread about reality, if you are going to try and fund something, you need to actually understand what you are funding and provide a write up that actually sells the project.

Yeah the funder has failed on many, many levels. Don't really know how she is involved.

@scottalanmiller It was rushed, I don't really know the process behind choosing the person to do it.

Just out of curiosity for us on the side-lines.

                                        What happened in the end?

Last that I knew they were looking into turning them from "homeless" into "travelers." In the US this would not make any sense but in Europe someone of their age traveling around doing odd jobs seeing the world is completely normal and expected. I had friends doing exactly this living with us here for the last three weeks.

So we coached them (in the thread) on how to find this kind of work and what to do to earn enough to eat and find a place to sleep. Hopefully that worked out for them. They were going to scrape together money for bus fare (or honestly I can just go pick them up and take them somewhere) to get to a workaway program to get them started.

My houseguests just scored working as a maid and pool boy (there are two of them, that's not one person flipping roles) in a mansion on the French Riviera for a month as they work their way to Italy.
