Block XP from the internet

The client only has a CradlePoint MBR 1200 business class router.

If you RDP to it straight from the internet, no, not really.
If you VPN into the network, pull the gateway off the thing. It won't be able to get to the internet but will be seen in the local network.

@technobabble Okay if you can edit the firewall rules you can block it's mac address from any outbound communication. That will effectively halt the machine from getting internet access.

Bill, thanks. I saw i could block the MAC but that also blocked the PC from the network. Thanks for the firewall tip!
Thanks for your tip PSX_Defector. The client doesn't have a VPN and is not looking to spend much money. Hopefully Bill's tip will work out!

convert it to XP mode on a Windows 7 machine and remove it's network access from the VM. Then you can RDP into the windows 7 machine, launch the XP machine and you're good to go.

Likewise you can use VirtualBox and enable the Oracle extensions and RDP directly to XP without needing to touch the box that it is on! Then you can virtualized on any windows, Mac, Linux or Solaris system.

Yes. VB has RDP built in from the Oracle extensions. Without the extensions you can use VNC.

Dash, that was my 2nd solution (W7 XP Mode), however 1st solution was to update the software and move it to existing W7 PC.

Other great ideas out there, however the client is looking for cheap. So either i disable the PC from accessing the internet or she brings in a monitor and uses the PC off the network. Sometimes my extremely small business stress me out!
