Monoprice Cherry MX Blue Mechanical Keyboard
-
I'm not usually picky about keyboards I typically use the keyboards that came with the computer and don't care. But, after having to use the sub $10 GearHead Media Pro Keyboard for the few past months I wanted something better. While I could just use some of the Dell keyboard I have laying around I don't particularly like them. I do like some of HPs keyboards but I don't have any spares right now. (even though I'm using an HP z800 mine got jacked)
So I decided to pick up my first Mechanical keyboard in many years. The last one I had was an IBM M series keyboard. I don't know why I waited so long to get another one.
I picked up the Monoprice Cherry MX Blue Keyboard off of ebay as it's currently out of stock pretty much everywhere. I chose this keyboard for two reasons first and foremost the price as I got it under $60 with shipping. Secondly I did not want some flashy gaming keyboard. I wanted something that just looked sleek and normal rather than drawing attention to itself.
I love this thing. It looks very business like compared to most mechanical keyboards on the market. I also find myself typing much faster than I did on the mushy keyboard from Gearhead. I don't really game much but in the few times I've played CounterStrike with it, it has worked very well and I get more accurate out of shots but getting feedback on what I am doing (I still lose)
I do have two gripes about this keyboard; The first and biggest issues is the noise, not only does the Cherry MX blue provide great tactile feedback for your fingers, it is also loud and clacky. Most of the time it does not bother me but, it bothers other people. It would have been nice to have a choice of Cherry MX Brown instead of Blue. It's not a deal breaker just something to be aware of as I was.
The other issues is while I don't care for a ton of hotkeys, I'd like to see volume up/down and mute keys on this keyboard. That really would have completed it for me. I'll probably just write an AutoHotkey script to control the volume.
I'm pretty happy with this purchase!
