Looking for a low cost PC/Server/Storage solution to run IP Camera Software...I already have a very robust Seagate Business Storage NAS running Windows Storage Server 2012. Having just gone through a Microsoft Self-Audit, I am already doubting I can get another one of these and load the IP Camera software suite on it, right? Not so much the CPU but the licensing...It will cost about $700-$800 more to build a tower server with Windows 2012 R2 but then I get the benefit of virtualization too...just looking for cost cutting ideas...

      Thanks...

I believe that from a licensing perspective that you can do that. Better to get IP Camera software for Linux, of course.

This NAS has a Dual Core Atom Processor...minimum for this software is "Intel® Pentium® 4, 2.4 GHz or higher (CoreTM 2 recommended)", so I am good there...I think...LOL...no really knowing how heavy duty the Atom is...

Or how light duty the Pentium 4 was.

We need the storage, not only for the video but I can always use storage...and this NAS has been proven and tested at my home and work and I like it. At worse, if the atom can't handle the software, I'll throw it on another machine... 🙂

You may notice slowdowns as those NAS units use the Atom processor to handle the parity RAID system.
