Groupon Backs Down from Attempting to Infringe on Gnome Trademark
-
Gnome has been a well known trademark for about fifteen years. But that didn't stop Groupon from attempting to file the name as their own trademark this week. However, level heads prevails and Groupon has backed down from a legal battle with Gnome over the trademark. This does not resolve Groupon from clearly being quite dodgy, however. It just means that they realized that they had no way to win this one and that open source projects will not simply be bullied.

Good to hear. I had heard about their attempted infringement yesterday but did not see the details.

Yes, very good. It's awful when large companies think that they can just register common names that are already in use and just shut down established projects.

I hear Groupon is leaning towards Dwarf or Hobbit now.

LOL. I'd like to try to see them claim trademark on Hobbit!
