Proxmox install
-
On most proxmox installs it sets the local storage at 100 GB. This seems to be the filesystem and any ISO's. Most of our installs only use about 8 GB for this (I know I can remove the ISO's after install)
Obviously some is used for swap and then it essentially uses the rest for local-lvm.
I'm trying to figure out what I need to change in order to have it use less space for the local storage.
For the most part I 'think' I understand the information in 2.3.1 of the admin manual: https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/pve-admin-guide.html#installation_installer
The hdsize is the max amount you want to use at all
Swap size is usually 4 to 8 GB
Maxroot - I think this corresponds to the local storage that in most of our deployments is using 100 GB. Setting this at something low like 20 GB should be sufficient and even maybe overkill... (I think)
Min Free - default is 16 GB (I don't know if I should set it as something different)
Max VZ - This is the one I am really confused on. Does this correspond to the local-vlm that it normally creates?I am a bit over my head as @scottalanmiller often helps with our Proxmox deployments but he's out of pocket.

Max VZ is a reference, I would assume, to storage used for VZ instances, rather than KVM instances.

maxroot holds the operating system. So this is something that you'd likely set to 8-20GB. No bigger.

minfree Defines the amount of free space left in the LVM volume group pve. With more than 128GB storage available the default is 16GB, else hdsize/8 will be used.
This is space to leave behind for snapshots. They suggest 1/8th the size of your hard drive.
