I thought you were kidding... This guy is real.
That is ridiculous. No IT Pros take them seriously, but I guess they don't know that.
I worked for the Geek Squad in Orlando (The one next to the Florida Mall). It was my first IT job and the pay was decent, but everyone that worked there was completely clueless. My managers were complete aholes. They had no problem ripping people off and thought they were something because they managed the Geek Squad. My manager pulled me aside and gave me a lecture because I recommended that an old lady buy a new computer rather than charge her $300 to repair her WINDOWS ME PC. I walked out of his office and said I dont need this crap. The next week, I got a job at Lockheed Martin making almost double. We did get a really good on hardware so I bought like $500 worth of gear the day before I quit

They bragged daily how the Florida Mall Geek Squad did more repairs than any other Geek Squad. Yeah.... "we love to rip tourist off " should have been their slogan

I stole so many customers from Geek Squad when I was at Staples. They were half a mile from us. Across the bridge and other side of the road. The bridge was just over a highway, so not long. See attached picture.

@IRJ I did a very, very short stint at a Radio Shack part time. It was very similar, and I left after they were able to rotate more people in. I got a kick out of being able to see their back-end systems and ERP though. Retail markups are ridiculous.

Computers lose money though. It's the accessories that make money.

Oh totally! I can't remember it's been forever, but there was some sort of system in place for accessories; think it was 3 to 1? You only got a certain percentage of your sales commission on a standalone item if you didn't sell something around 2-3 accessories with it. I.e. phones, tablets, cameras, etc.

@MattKing Oh, retail is crazy mark-ups. I used to work in Sales for a company that manages most of the college campus bookstore nation wide. 50-60% markup on textbooks. Making the poor - poorer.

Alright, I have never stolen anything.
Except a few of my college books back in the day.
Sorry mom.

The geeksquad is a joke. I am glad you were able to steal some customers
