Well, I'm Hooked Again
-
It's fitting, ya know...I have been TRYING, yes, TRYING, to get hooked on video games for awhile now. I could manage to swing it though. My problem was I had a ton of TV series I wanted to watch, try out, or re-watch. I can't game game and watch GoT at the same time. Thus, I have played, likely, thousands of games of 2048Alphabet. This is because I can do two things, but with one hand. I watch my show (mostly out of the corner of my eye, so it's a bit harder with anime) and use my arrow keys to play the game on the adjacent screen.
Well, after re-watching dozens of seasons on probably at least a dozen different shows, I think my ADHD was satisfied. This weekend, I sat myself down, gave myself a good talking-to, and started a new career on Dragon Age: Origins. Playing as a human this time. Other than a short-lived first timer, I have always played as a dwarf. Higher magic resistance, good constitution, good warrior-esqe rogues. However, not wanting to hassle with the dwarven opening story line, I chose human, and I've liked it. It's been interesting for sure though. I have already managed to lose the opportunity to recruit one of the companions in the game by forgetting to check somewhere in Lothering (insert the obligatory facepalm here). Oh well, it was Leliana, and I rarely use her.
I've beat the game on the 360 but I never had the DLC on it. I got the Ultimate pack for the original Dragon Age, as did @scottalanmiller , on a Steam amazing sale in April of last year. So, I'm doing all the DLC. Just finished a close to 20 hour stretch and are about to turn it. The elves are recruited for the cause and I need to get some shuteye. However, the old feeling of not wanting to stop, which til now I have been unable to reclaim, is finally back! I wanted to want to game, but couldn't til now. They had a mega sale on Steam as well just the other day. After I beat Dragon Age, and all of it, I plan to play through ALL of Skyrim on my PC. The Legendary edition, which I have on the 360 and played a ton on, was part of the bundle on Steam. Elder Scrolls online, Dishonored and all its DLC (another game I beat on 360 but without the DLC) and a bunch of other stuff was included. I have a couple games I will see if I can gift if anyone wants them. They include:
DOOM II: Hell on Earth
Doom 3: BFG Edition
Fallout
Fallout 2
Fallout Tactics
Final Doom
Master Levels for Doom II
The Ultimate Doom...and possibly Wolfenstein: The New Order. So 1. I don't know if I even can gift them yet and 2. I'm not sure about giving away Wolfenstein, even if I can, but post here with what you want (3 game limit/person to start and we'll fill out later) and they're yours. I'll never play 'em.
Thanks,
A.J. -
Welcome back to the Dragon Age addiction.

Thank you. I'm not looking forward to the archdemon at the end though. I always play on easy though. I know it's wimpy but 1. Easy on PC is more like Normal on everything else, and 2. I play for the fun of it, not to get frustrated fighting the same battles 50 times.

I've never played Dragon Age, i might have to pick up a copy. I'm actually sucked into some serious Civ 5 end-game right now trying to come out on top. After that misery is over I'm going to try to play Day Z again (I heard the new patches make it playable), but probably just end up finishing Borderlands 2 and Farcry 3.

@MattKing Dragon Age is one if the best storytelling ever in a game. Really awesome.

I'll have to check it out, I was just telling AJ I'm waiting for Rimu to roll out CentOS7 in production so I have some time after day-work. Finally.

OKAY, JUST STOP YELLING.
I'll have to check it out, not bad for $30 on steam. How's the actual gameplay? I've never actually seen any gameplay other than what i just looked up. It reminds me of an addicting cross between Oblivion and Diablo? maybe?

Different angle than Diablo (as far as POV). It's a similar play style to Elder Scrolls but not as deep. Still an amazing story line. And SORRY! I'LL STOP YELLING NOW!

@MattKing the DLC is very important. Get the Ultimate Edition on Steam on you will be good to go. The game play is more like Oblivion but it is not open world and the combat is not real time.

The combat can be real time. It can be stop and go or real-time. The harder the game gets, the more stop and go it becomes. So yes and no to your point.

Ahh, see that sounds interesting. Applebee's is far/inconvenient for me and is on a longer timeline, this is something I can manage to check out!

I think @dominica is thinking about returning to Dragon Age again too.

@ajstringham I used to feel like I was a wimp or something for always wanting to play on easy, and then @scottalanmiller explained why he does in a way that made so much sense. We aren't in it for slash and hack just for the sake of it, we play for the story, and you get the same story on easy.
-
@scottalanmiller Yes, I've been thinking about it. I just have so much to do at the moment, that I'm afraid to let myself get started up again! At the moment, I spend all day reading homeschool email lists, searching for groups for us to join, reading posts on HS facebook groups, etc. I want to make sure that we are well prepared for this first official reporting year of HS in NYS.

Exactly! Some see the story as part of the game. I see the story as the reason to game.

@ajstringham my too. I sometimes refer to gaming as "interactive fiction" because I see it as storytelling. I don't care about the action.
