Why the bikini shots? It isn't very professional imo, and adds nothing positive to the thread or tone of the overall site.

What bikini shot? I was looking at the bridge in the background.

What bridge? Where?

That's the bridge of the americas, spanning the Panama canal. Picture taken from near the BioMuseo.

And? The picture is not about the bridge, nor are the other bikini pictures scattered through this thread about what is in the background. I'm not objecting to bikini pictures in general, I just think they're inappropriate for an IT forum. If I want to see something like that there are plenty of other places on the internet for posting and viewing such. Just my perspective, and you can do with it what you will. I'm actually surprised that @Minion-Queen is ok with them.

@kelly why all the hate for a picture with a nice looking woman near some amazing, travel destination scenery? Would you prefer a beefy, muscled up man? Sometimes there are people wearing beach attire near these coastal attractions. Plus, this thread has zero to do with IT, so what's the real issue here?
...Or has the @spiceworks spy account hacked your login and now they are trying to erode this site from the inside?

No hate for the picture, I just think it is inappropriate for a professional forum. Do you see it as different from hanging up the same picture at the water cooler/breakroom in your office?

I didn't realize this was such a Puritanical forum.
Hanging this pic up in our break room is not an apples to apples comparison. Our break room is not specifically designated for the posting of pictures of travel destinations. It's just a regular break room... So you're comparing apples to trucks. Are not many of the posts on the Random thread much more "inappropriate for a professional forum"? But you feel no need to attack those because... ? Did your wife catch you looking at the bikini pic and now you're in hot water? Were you savagely beaten and robbed by a bikini clad gang of female badasses, and now you're triggered by a woman in a bikini? I feel like there's more to your objection than meets the eye.

Being from NY, what is worn to the office in person is often not that much different from a bikini. This is definitely something I see varying a lot regionally. Some regions like NY and TX would typically see bikini or similar attire or pictures as totally normal and not unprofessional at all. While other regions it would be totally abnormal and strange. Maybe local temps, proximity to beaches, urban density, income levels or other factors are significant factors here. Or possible the background cultural mix of different areas.

It is y'all's call. I don't have a personal objection to the pictures. I fall into the "if I don't like it, I don't look at it" group generally speaking. It was more from a perspective of setting a tone.
@RojoLoco Thanks for ad hominem. It has been a few days since my last one.

@kelly it's a useful conversation. And one with big importance, I think. It goes both ways. In one case, it's should women be "viewed" in a professional setting, I don't think that that needs explanation. But on the other side, do women feel that avoiding such things makes them feel as though they aren't free to dress or express themselves? It's not just what "is seen" as professional, but also "what should be seen" as professional.
-
I pinged @MarigabyFrias as a bunch of men discussing this in a vacuum won't be all taht productive. But the discussion might be good in general.
-
@kelly clearly sarcasm, comedy, and the appeal of bikini clad women are all lost on you.
I thought the "if you don't like it, don't look at it" group might just let a thing slide without needing to call it out publicly.
