Netgear Smart Switch + VOIP & QOS + AutoVoip
-
Hi guys, we have a Netgear GS752TP 48port POE switch on a small network (15 users) who have just implemented VOIP phones.
PCs and Phones are all directly patched into the switch. Our internet bandwidth is great 50up 50 down which is more than enough for what we do.
Since installing the phones, call quality has been terrible and i'm sure there are some QOS settings we can play with on the Netgear to get this working well, yet I am not familiar with these kind of settings so wondered if anyone can help?
Our switch has QOS, Voice VLAN or Auto-Voip - can anyone help explain what I need to be configuring/changing to help improve quality of calls?
If you need additional info, please let me know.thanks in advance

IIRC correctly Auto-Voip doesn't work very well. Voice VLAN won't do anything for performance, QoS would probably be the answer.
Where are you seeing call issues, internal calls? External calls? I'd be surprised if you are maxing out that fabric.

Where is your PBX? Local or hosted on the internet?
Assuming internet, what kind of firewall do you have?
Is this a new problem? i.e. did it ever work well?

All calls in and out. Every other word is missed, echoing external voice in background. SIP_ALG is disabled on our Draytek firewall (which has QOS configured). It's a cloud hosted PBX and is brand new. Happening since day 1 (as i am told)

Ah, then I doubt it is your switch. Have you taken a phone off network to see if it has the problem there as well?

Yes, phones work perfectly fine outside the network!

Definitely the router then.

Agreed, firewall/router issue most likely. Prove it by plugging a phone directly into the firewall if possible.

i'll test it all tomorrow and come back to you if still a prob. thanks guys.

Might also look to see if there is an update for the firewall.
