When to Consider High Availability on SMBITJ

When to Consider High Availability on SMB IT Journal.
Too often, it seems like we can just make the knee jerk reaction to state that high availability is always needed, but nothing is further from the truth. To do so not only means that we don't understand the financial impact of IT decisions, but also suggests that we don't understand the proper role of IT decision making. Essentially nothing in IT can just be assumed, and if it can there is no need for IT there. If IT was as easy as "always do this", there would just be one solution for everyone and that's all that we would use. Clearly, this isn't true.
Cost analysis, risk mitigation and more are some of the toughest and most important things that we do in IT and one of the areas where we earn our greatest value to an organization. Knowing what HA means, what patterns for success look like, know when and how to implement them are all very important.
It sounds simple to just claim that high availability is always good, but nothing could be further from the truth.
