IT Service Providers: How do you purchase your IT Products !

  • Hi,
I would love to hear from you guys how do you deal with your IT purchases, assuming you are an IT Service Provider company, how would you get your IT Products such as HP, Dell, etc. Servers and Networking Peripherals, everything...
Would you directly contact the product dealer or a sub-dealer (Reseller) ?
Based on your experience, which one do you guys prefer and why ?

    Thanks,

  • We do a combination of things: We are resellers for a few products as this just makes the best sense for our customers. We partner with a Dell reseller and we use a VAR to do everything else. Our VAR adds HUGE value to our sales and makes my life much easier and doesn't argue with us over the sale of anything.

    Thanks for you prompt reply.
In regards to the Partnership, it's something I would really love to do, however I have contacted many companies such as HP and they have mentioned the below:
*Business Units: EG (Enterprise Group – software, servers, storage, networking) or PPS (Printing and Personal Systems – laptops, desktops, printers, cartridges).
As a general Guideline the threshold is $50 000/year on EG side and $150 000/year on PPS side.

How on earth I can get such amounts and we are still a new established business.
should we have to wait for 2 or 3 years until we target this amount ?
    I am just confused.
Am not based in the US.

  • For the most part you are better off partnering with a VAR. Until you are big enough to sell at the levels needed it just makes the most sense. A VAR or Value Added Reseller, really CAN add HUGE value to your business. They can take lots of work off of your plate for getting server quotes ready for clients and much more.

It really depends on what you're doing. $50k isn't much at all, depending on the projects you're working with. A fully decked-out server can run several thousand per unit. I've come across single projects that go beyond $50k. As far as the residential side goes, there isn't much margin there, and really isn't worth looking into unless you have a very high volume.

  • @alexntg
Yea, comparing to the US market those prices are quiet easy to target.
but i agree to go for a VAS as @Minion-Queen mentioned.
    thanks you.

  • Where are you located we might be able to suggest a VAR that can work with you.

  • @Minion-Queen
    Beirut, Lebanon

  • Let me reach out to our VAR and see if they have coverage there.

  • Do you have any offices in the US at all? I talked to my VAR they are able to work with you some. If you send me a Chat message I will get you their information.

  • 50k is a lot of money when you are starting off.

You'll have to work with a VAR as stated above, some are lovely and extremely helpful.

    Best of luck 🙂
