If you are on Skype for Linux this morning you might have seen "Sorry, this version of Skype is not supported anymore":

Quite the pain. It's a hard application to quit, as well, no matter how many times you tell it to quit, it does not. Kill that process from the command line.

What has happened? Microsoft has released a new version of Skype for Linux and since their app does not automatically update your older version is now dead, no explanation, no repo, no updater... argh.

Solution is simple, but unexplained anywhere. If you go to this link:

      https://community.skype.com/t5/Linux/Where-to-get-the-latest-Skype-for-Linux-Alpha/td-p/4536964

You get an old article, no updates, with a download link from long ago that goes to an unversioned install package. That package is... actually updated, which you would never guess. Download that, uninstall your old Skype and install this one. All fixed.

@aaronstuder said in Skype for Linux Alpha:

Then we can start complaining about a lack of software. They had production software that stopped working. This is what they replaced it with.
