Is anyone currently running Apple Mac OSX Server?
-
Curious to know if anyone is running OSX server? I want to know how it's changed/improved since OSX Server (Leopard). Haven't worked on it since I left my last Mac shop job in 2012. We had an X Serve in the rack back then, which was nice for the Macs in that environment. Able to keep Mac and Windows storage separate that way.

I thought Apple killed off their server line?

I built some about two or three years ago but we ended up not putting them into production. Even working with Apple engineering they felt that it was a bad idea.

@Dashrender They stopped making server hardware awhile ago. I'm talking about the software. Modern OSX Server runs on a mac mini.

I am still using my snow Leopard server on the mac mini server. Used mainly as chat and wiki server. Will be soon killed when we deploy MS Link + Sharepoint, but so far didn't had much maintenance works on it after the setup, touchwood!

The Mini really is not a bad SMB server as long as you don't need much disk space. Or attach a Drobo 5D and share it out.

We use a mac mini server for streaming locally generated TV content (I work for telecom, working with IPTV) So it's primarily multicast traffic. We do have a mac mini server for corporate as well. That handles the group policies and such for our mac computers. Works nice. Not sure what OS version it is on.
