Free ESXi Backup? Thinware?

Howdy strangers. Doing some research for a client, stumbled upon this potential Gem. Anybody ever use Thinware vBackup? Hit me with your experience.

@Hubtech AND in the vein of cheap/free.....what's would y'all recommend for a reliable, "inexpensive" target for the backups? I see xbyte has some MD1000's for pretty cheap.

I have not seen that before but you have piqued my interest. Free and it handled ESXi free?? That's huge.

Indeed, especially since you can use command line tools to run it. It would be fairly easy (I assume) to add email notifications to a script.

There's always something like a Drobo 5N that's dirt cheap. You can put some large 7200 RPM drives in it to get the capacity you want. It won't be extremely fast, but it will work. I cannot remember if it has DroboSync capabilities, but I am thinking it does not have it (maybe that is the fs line).

I've always wanted to try Quantum, but I do not think from the looks of it that it would work on ESXi free.

The 5N is the smaller version of the B800fs. They are the NAS devices and all of the Drobo NAS have DroboSync. It is everything else that lacks DroboSync.

But that defeats the purpose of having a built in scheduler in my opinion.

They are forcing me to use an external script to fire the backups jobs and report status.
This makes the built in scheduler useless.

Yes, as I have clients using Veeam.
The whole point is that intentionally disabling something a stupid as email notifications galls me as pure money grab. It is just stupid.
You want me to pay, give me features worth the cost. Mail notification is not and is something that will turn me off as evidenced by my responses here.

The above rant not withstanding, this priceppoint is awesome and well worth $150 per host.
As I have SQL server guests with thick provisioned disks, I will require a license to back those up. That feature is worth the cost alone.
My next question is how does it backup the free license ESXi? does. It make a snapshot and then. Just backup via SSH or something?
