SD card not showing up on MacBook
I have an adata brand 16 gig SDHC card which became corrupted in my Canon S90 (it looks like a lot of people are having problems with this card). When I put the card into the card reader, the volume does not show up on the desktop of my MacBook Air 2017, or appear at all under Finder -- no error message or any other evidence that it is attached in any way.I have done some basic troubleshooting in this post: https://iboysoft.com/mac-data-recovery/sd-card-not-showing-up-on-mac-computer.html
I've tried to show the SD card on the desktop and in Finder, but to no avail. Then I've checked the SD card in Disk Utility, but I couldn't be able to see it listed on the left sidebar.
I have also tried a variety of card recovery programs on my Mac, like Photorec, EaseUS, iBoysoft. And on the Windows side booted under VMWare. But since the card is not mounting at all, none of these programs can see the card to try to recover anything.
Does anybody have any suggestions? I really would like to recover these photos.

Yeah, most of that kind of software only works when you can mount the disk (data erased, but drive intact.)
You could send it to someone like https://www.badharddriveutah.com/ and maybe they can do something?

Have you tried a different OS? Macs aren't the most robust of tools. It's unlikely that another OS is going to have more luck, but it's possible.
Also, can you see it in the Canon still? If the Canon can read it, you are okay. If it can't, you probably aren't.
I regularly have cards that either Windows or Linux can't read but the other can. Having both (not under VMware) can help a lot.

Tim (at Desert Data Recovery) 602–686–2622 would be your best choice. It's most likely that the controller has gone bad and you need a 'chip off recovery'.
Software will not get you anywhere and perhaps make it unrecoverable the more you use it.

@scottalanmiller Thanks for your reply. It is giving a Memory Card Error message in the camera, so it is definitely not usable there anymore either.
I tried on both Mac and Windows. The problem is that the card will not mount at all, so the system (and hence any software programs) do not acknowledge that there is a card there to try and rescue data from.
At this point, I think my only option is probably going to be asking for help from a commercial data recovery service...

That's definitely what it sounds like. Tim at Desert Data Recovery is the place to call.
