Christmas Movie Traditions
-
Anyone else have a holiday season movie that they watch every year? I know a lot of people watch Frosty the Snowman or A Christmas Story. Our family has, for about a decade now, been watching Bing Crosby's White Christmas every year before Christmas comes. It's our way to mark that the holiday season has started officially. It is one of our favourite movies of all time, maybe our absolute favourite. It is so much more than just a holiday film. It's a great musical, has great song and dance numbers, is a true staple of post-war Americana and has great production. We love it as a romantic comedy, holiday film and musical. It's just a classic film.
It is one of the few films that we have owned on laserdisc, DVD and now BluRay.

Michael and I have done the 2 Grinch movies since he was a baby pretty much. This year though he wants to watch White Christmas with me.
As a family we do Rudolph and Elf.

Has he seen White Christmas before?
-
Nope he hasn't but he has been listening to the sound track from his record collection as of late.

If you are interested in where the song "White Christmas" came from, it isn't the obvious movie. It was Bing Crosby but an easlier, black and white film, called Holiday Inn.

Oh he is going to love it. Definitely a landmark in film making. Really great look at the impact of the post-war era on the country and culture and a cool look at the dying days of live musical theatre.

Yup going to introduce him to that as well. Now that he is really into all the records he is listening to all of this music from old movies. So will slowly start introducing him to the movies themselves

Awesome. It's hard to go wrong with White Christmas.

Not for Christmas but simply because it was on, I used to watch the "A Christmas Movie" on TBS every year, or at least for a few years. To me, that's kind of like Home Alone. A Christmas movie but in a different class than "The Grinch Stole Christmas", etc. It's classification as a Christmas movie is closer to "Die Hard" than the Grinch...

Home Alone was good, haven't seen that in forever.

The second one wasn't bad either. I actually liked the third one too. I think it was the third one that had the kid with the spies. That was pretty funny, although quite unrealistic, even more so than normal.

I've already watched White Christmas twice and will probably watch it several more times before the season is over. I like having it on in the background. Elf is another must watch repeatedly for me, and I love all the Tim Allen Santa Claus movies.

I haven't watched the Tim Allen Movies in a long time. Might have to dig those out.

Apparently Sweden has a weird holiday movie tradition....
