If you are at SpiceWorld 2018 in Austin this year and want to know "where to be" to hang out with the long term insiders, here is the standard schedule of events.

      Monday

8PM - After the Vendor Even and Welcome Shindig...

90 Rainey Street for the Citizen-X Spicy Mixer. at the Container Bar.

We expect a lot of old timers to end up heading to the traditional Handlebar location after the Container Bar as this is what has been happening after Rainey St. parties in part years.

To get there, head to the corner of 5th and Brazos and head up to the top deck of the HandleBar for our ~seventh annual welcome night party. No sponsors at this event. Beer-focused outdoor venue. Very casual, nice chance to meet people that you will look for at the main conference.

      Tuesday

11PM - After the big official party, it is time for the TENTH ANNUAL SCOTT ALAN MILLER AFTERPARTY at Touche's on 6th. This is the big party, hundreds have been turning out for a full decade now, this is the place to be for everyone "in the know." Be prepared to party hard. No sponsor this year (yet at least.) Be prepared to go all night. And no, the party does not migrated, it's Touche's all night.

Afterwards, we recommend pizza across the street or street gyros down to the west on 6th as you stumble home.

      Wednesday

After the Conference - First, hit the Scale Boat if you can. This is the best event at the show, but very hard to squeeze onto. Hit Scale Computing's booth early (like Tuesday morning) and score yourself a ticket so that you can go. The boat is great, you see the city, the river, and the famous Austin Congress St. Bridge bats. From the boat, it's a straight walk back to Touche's for the "straggle out" party. This party starts as people "straggle in" from the boat and, for those that missed the boat (literally and figuratively), from other events, and then, sometime around 1AM, the party starts to migrate down 6th for shots at other bars. Lots of people fly out tonight, so people "straggle out" as they head home. I have to join the straggle outers this year, and will be leaving before the end of the night myself, sadly.

Those are the big three. Hope to see everyone there! Have a great conference.

The Scale boat seemed to have fewer people on it than past years.

If that is true, it means it was fatter people than in years past. They were past capacity and had to turn people away and a couple sneaked on after they had closed for capacity as it was. And at least three couldn't make it because they had someone unable to make the trip as quickly as possible. So they weren't just over boat capacity, but had many attempt and fail to get on the boat.

but I think they've been "at capacity" every year. They make a big deal of it being first come first serve.

Yeah, we were talking about fatter people in the lower level - mind you it was heavy people doing the talking, not me. 😛

You weren't the only large person on the boat. 😛

I simply said - There seem like less people on the boat. The not small woman sitting next to me said - "I'm betting it's more fat people on the boat this year, including me - I wasn't here last year."

Maybe the water in the river lost density. Pollution will do that.

Somebody is calling Scott's wife and kids fat!

Also, I recall the top deck were told to move to prevent the boat from capsizing!

yeah, good point, I did my part to offset the weight by having TWO tiny little girls in my entourage this year!

Top was okay. Bottom deck was re-balanced as we were boarding.
