Office 365 shared responsibility model
-
So I came across this: https://www.veeam.com/blog/office365-shared-responsibility-model.html
I do not use Office 365, instead, I use G Suite.
Is there a need to backup G Suite in the same way as Office 365?

Business Data back up is important, Why would you not back up Your data? your article points out that it's your data, Microsoft backs up their side of the business infrastructure.. the security behind everything, and it's plain as day you should be backing up your own data, from this model. you cant go wrong with backing up your data in my opinion. Because you never know when you will need it.
Do you believe that your data is backed up by G-Suite?
They may back up the software, their data that is being used by you, maybe the security configurations, but it is Your data.. why would they back it up? It's not their Data, It's not really their problem, You pay for a service ( or use a service) and that service doesn't come with your data being backed up on their servers.Unless I am completely wrong here, Which maybe the Case, But The way I see Backing up Data : it should Be done, By you because it is Your Data. . . I don't care if Some software runs database back ups for you, I still would feel much better if my Data was secure by me when running a backup on anything That I am doing. ( a part from 3rs party's like Vultr, Next Cloud : but there you still have to do the back up yourself, they dont do it for you. These are just hosted solutions for backing up your Data )
Now that's not to say you shouldn't use software back ups, But My question: why would you not want your own back up of your own data? that way you know for sure there is at least 1 out there, that you can get to anytime you need to?

We use G-Suite as well at our office. I still make copies of my data I put into google Docs- as a back up on my Thumb Drive.
I believe back ups are Important to everything a business does that is business critical. backing up everything makes sense to me, is all I'm trying to get at. -
Both O365 and G-Suite are resilient, but not backed up. It can survive failure, but has a limited capability to restore something after a user has done something with it.

I would say that all services often have a need to backup, none completely do. Comes down to the resiliency that you need.
O365 or G Suite are very much bricks, they rarely lose data. For a normal business, the impact of email loss at the rate that they experience it has a very low impact. Annoying, but only so bad.
If losing email would destroy your business, they you need to backup any service. Because even the most reliable provider in the world is at risk of account mistakes.
