Such an interesting article, that actually with a quick google search will show many articles both large and small on the subject. My wife and I run into these types all the time, actually she runs into it more in the healthcare field than I do in IT. Anyways, just thought I would share this article.

Ha ha. How apropos that the article comes from Cornell 😉

It seems obvious to me. If you aren't smart enough to identify competence, of course you are almost certainly going to be incompetent since you cannot be motivated by normal means to excel.

I'm not sure most (or really anyone) would rate themselves at below average in their ability to do anything. The conclusion does seem kind of obvious.

I also feel like the conclusion seems obvious, but I can see how those with no ability for self-reflection wouldn't be aware that they do this. I did like the point about the democratic process - that the average person doesn't have any knowledge of politics or issues, and so doesn't understand for what they are voting. I'm in support of having to take a test before voting (can be verbal for those that are illiterate but informed) and I would probably fail it.

Hate to say it, but I'd be in the same boat. Though I do consider myself more informed than the average citizen, that's really not saying much.

Very interesting write-up. Being truly and brutally honest with ourselves is just about one of the hardest things to do in life.
