DIY: Cheap environmental probe

I plan to build an ultra-cheap environmental probe for my server room(s).
- ESP8266 ($3 MCU with WiFi) and the ESPeasy MQTT software stack
- Cheap temperature sensor, DS18B20 for example or even a DHT11 temperature and humidity sensor
- 3D printed case (bought a 3D printer not long ago)
How it works:
- The ESP8266 will report to a MQTT broker every once in a while.
- The Broker may run in a VM or on a cheap ARM board. Maybe a docker container that runs on Azure or AWS? Doesn't matter at all.
- A script captures the MQTT messages and "converts" them to SNMP values.
- You can now feed your monitoring system from there
Hardware should be below $5, maybe $10.
Any other ideas what it could do? The MCU still has plenty of pins and cycles free at this point

Bought a 3d printer.
Final price 500$ per unit.

I can highly recommend the Anycubic I3 Mega. I do have access to quite a few printers, incl. Ultimaker 2/3 Extended, BigReps and others. The Anycubic is outstanding given the price and at least compareable to the Ultimaker IMHO. Great results, good build quality, no open wires like other cheap printers.
