Kindle FireHD for Kids?
-
We have the Kindle HDX for our 7 year old...it has the Kindle FreeTime case on it and it is excellent protection. We use the FreeTime app too to control the content and time limits...this is a parental choice of ours but we cancelled the FreeTime unlimited because really, just too much choices for her and she would often not finish something and then go to the next app/movie and not finish it...
Bottom line, the KindleFree time app is the best parental control of any tablet...

My kids use iPads and love them. Why the Kindle Fire? If your daughter already has an iPad, I'm not sure what you are asking. Are you asking if this will be even better than that for her?

Personally, I think the Kindle died after the 3rd-generation keyboards were done away with. Those were by far the best Kindles ever made. Combined with the Amazon leather case with the built-in LED light that ran off the Kindle's battery, it was just incredible. Still have mine.
I gave my third gen away because the touch was so much better. No need to carry around all that extra machine just for a keyboard that I never used. The keyboard-less Paperwhite is my favourite model. It's absolutely gorgeous, backlit and no keyboard.
The LED lights are terrible compared to the glow screen. And the battery can now last months!
I like the keyboard personally. Can't stand the touch-screen e-ink Kindles. That and the Paperwhite is too small for me. I have a Galaxy S4 but I have a battery pack and a card stick-on that makes it a much bigger phone to hold. I have the 3rd-gen Kindle Keyboard with the leather case. I hate when devices are real small, or super thin. I usually go out of my way to bulk these devices up, so they fit more comfortably in my hands, etc.

I agree that the Kindle Fire is a stupid device. Either get an iPad or get a full-blown Android tablet and download the app for the Amazon app store. You can still get the Kindle app and all the other same apps but without the limitations. The Fire is like the Surface RT. It can do a lot, but why would you get that over the Surface Pro, which can do everything with no limitations?

My mother has an iPad at her house, but there is no tablet in my house. My mother thought my daughter might like it to use at our house so that it is "hers."

OH! Then yes. Get one.

My kids will sometimes play with the Google Nexus 7. They prefer the iPads, but in a pinch the Android will do.

Seems to me that they would be a good value. The Fire is not expensive and tablets like that are really great for kids.
