My boss, the Head of Technology... should really be the 'Head of Development'. But, when the person who did my job before me left, the job was moved to report to the 'Head of Technology' rather than the MD (the top). The role I do previously reported to the MD. Numbers wise, he has 9 people reporting to him, including me.

Yes, my boss = Head of Technology. His boss, Managing Director. The MD is the top.
What's the difference between these positions? HoT and MD?
MD is top. So, everything like the direction of the company etc will go from him. He will be able to tell the Head of Sales where to focus. He will be able to tell the Head of Technology where to focus. He reports to the board/owners etc...
Typically, the MD will tell the Head of Technology to focus on what the Head of Technology deems fit to focus on. Same for sales etc. But overall responsibility of the company is on the MD.

One heads a department, one heads the company.
Same as CIO and CEO.

Since I’m in the job market now, I often wonder what happens when you put your real title on a resume, which for most of us in SMB will be something like “IT Generalist,” but when a potential employer verifies your precious employment, your previous employee says “no, his title was Network Administrator.”
I've seen employees resumes after they have worked for me and their title was different. It doesn't bother me in the least if it is accurate to what they did. Your experience is your experience. I don't know about other managers, but when I'm looking at resumes, and when I have HR sort resumes, I'm looking for similar technologies, and the titles are practically ignored.

I don't think I like that... what do you folks think?I don't think 'Systems' gives any real insight in to the IT stuff that I cover (the large part of my role), and 'customer support' doesn't give any indication that my teams also cover training of customers (which I see as a service).
In all honesty, I'm going to be responsible for IT, the platform, the training of customers and the support of customers... I'd be happy with 'Head of IT & Customer Service Delivery'
- I see training, and helpdesk as covered under 'customer service delivery'.
- And the Head of IT part would cover all the IT stuff that I do in the OP...
Am I being silly here or is it right to push for a title I think makes sense?

I am not a fan of "head of". What about IT and Customer Service Director or manager? I don't see alot of titles with "head of" in them. Director or Manager seems more appropriate.

If you wanted a certain title, why would they say no? It sounds like your company is small enough that it doesn't really matter.
I would agree with @IRJ that you don't see "head of" much anymore.

I agree that "Head of" sounds like you are describing something rather than a title. It's not wrong, it's just more conversational that titular.

I've pushed back with 'IT & Customer Service Delivery Manager'. Lets see if they are happy with that. Though, I expect too be told 'must include Head of...' bah!
