I seem to remember Microsoft having a concept like this during the Gates era involving restaurant tables........

Awesome, I have been wanting stuff like this for forever. Not because I don't like human contact, I am an ENFP as we saw in the other thread, but I hate how difficult ordering is. The server never knows all of the options, it is hard to understand menus, things get lost and confused, it is hard to hear and some people actually get nervous and have problems ordering just beacuse they get scared. I see this as a really good thing.

My wife and I were talking about this last night and she jumped right into "well there goes more jobs" and I was telling her that actually no, they are still going to be there but their job is going to evolve and it may actually create more jobs because you take a typical restaurant, they have 30-40 + tables, each one of those needs to be serviced from time to time, built, installed etc etc. But you also can't blame the waiter / waitress for screwing up your order as much as you used to :).

@bill-kindle It becomes the cook's fault at that point. 😉

I definitely like the idea of this. No more waiting for the waiter to get to you. When you're ready to order, you simply place your order.

I suppose this also opens up the possibility that more than just a dedicate waiter/waitress can take care of a table - any wait staff could see that you have an empty glass and refill it, of course you can also press a button on the table asking for a refill.

I guess the main thing you'd be giving up is the sales pitch from the wait staff on what is good in their restaurant.
