OSPF uses
-
Hi, I'm trying to watch and learn more on the firewall and network side. Encountered a topic OSPF, learned the method of how to set it up but can you guys name some applicable uses of OSPF? I mean, there are a lot of routing protocols but when is the best time or when is it efficiently being used? what type or what network scenario?
Thanks

OSPF is the main protocol for internal routing in the enterprise. So it is pretty broadly applicable. RIP protocols are meant for very small routing needs and do not scale well. OSPF scales and can be used effectively pretty much no matter how large you get.

so eventhough it is widely used in Big networks or Enterprise networks. Having said that OSPF is shortest path, in terms of connection convergence is one advantage of OSPF?
Thanks

JeffOSPF detects the shortest path, detects status of the path and chooses the shortest working path for traffic. That's the high level summary.
