Sharing google photos is easy and allows anyone with any type of account to see them.
You also can set the access, so you can keep them private and just allow certain people to view them.
You should be able to back up all photos without any issue, I'm the type of person who always has the originals on my computer, so if something ever happened, I'd still have them. lol!

By "stealing" you mean breaking their terms of service for a specific product. Which I don't read. All I'm saying is that as I get more and more sucked into the Amazon and Google ecosystem the greater the risk that at some point I will do something to break one of their terms (or just randomly annoy them) which will cause my account to be deleted. For example, if I return too many faulty electrical goods purchased from Amazon then they will stop me from watching TV or reading my Kindle - even if those goods were genuinely faulty. And there seems to be no arbitration. If you're happy with that situation, then good for you, but I'm not entirely comfortable. I'm not blaming them per se, I just don't want to over expose myself to the whims of a private American company.

I'm not happy with the Amazon situation. From what I can tell, they are stealing from their customers in the cases that I've seen. But the lawsuit would be a large one, so I'm wary of the reports as the court cases have not been disclosed and if they were real, it seems that they would be.

lol - like American companies are the only ones that would do this to you.
If you've purchased content - as in you are a lifetime owner, then they should not be able to prevent you from gaining access to that, at best they should have to refund you then cut you off from their services. But if the TOS say you break the TOS and we can cut you off from anything you've purchased and there's no refund.. well, you agreed to that, wither you read the TOS or not, that was your choice. But I tend to think that the public outcry would prevent this from happening very much.
Do you recall the shit storm that happened years ago when Amazon deleted (and refunded) everyone who had purchased an inappropriately listed book from their Kindle store? Something inappropriate/illegal happened, Amazon found out about it and corrected the situation the best way they could, and in my opinion made whole those who had purchased the book with a refund.

Wow, turned into quite a thread.
I think I'll give Google Photos a shot, but still keep my own copies local as well in a central location. I agree with another person above that I would never trust anyone, other than myself, to keep a lifetime of family memories safe. I'll do that, then back that up....then make another backup just in case....

I have looked at Google Photos and Flickr. Neither have been really used to potential yet as I have to decide.
In the mean time I manually copy things from our phones and DSLR to my main desktop and that machine is backed up to CrashPlan.

If you're using Google Photos, instead of using your gmail.com account you use G Suite Business and get all the domain features plus the 1TB of storage for the same price. When you need more storage add via personal storage in Drive instead of via the domain which is 10xthe cost.

Has anyone tried this yet? This would be my all in one media solution if it turns out to work well.
