@scottalanmiller Meanwhile, those coming to the country legally face longer wait times while the border states are being inundated with illegal immigrants who are being allowed to stay indefinitely.
I'm sure the good rep from Illinois would view it differently if his job was also eliminated in order to be replaced by an H-1B worker.

H1Bs are desperately needed as the US cannot fill its employment needs. If you have two choices, H1B or exporting the job which do you choose?

I don't know what H-1B is, but there's a great article here on US immigration policy http://johnhcochrane.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/the-optimal-number-of-immigrants.html which sums up my views on the subject.

@Carnival-Boy H1B is the standard work visa for foreign professionals. It is the only visa that is normally involved with IT work.
If you, as a UK IT pro, was to request a position in the US and lacked a path to citizenship (married a local, had some claim, etc.) you would require an H1B to legally work here. You specifically would be a good example of an H1B candidate.
