Greenfield IT Department Questionaire
-
This came up today in a question so I thought that I would throw it out there. Someone was approaching a greenfield scenario and these were some of the things that I felt should be asked when taking over the IT department to start to determine where to begin.
How many users are there?
How do they work today?
How do they need to work individually?
How do they need to work together?
What is their mobility?
What applications and tools do they use?
What applications and tools do they need?
What works well today?
What works poorly today?
What doesn't exist today that users want?
What is the value of IT potentially to the business?
What is the risk aversion vis a vis security of the business?
What is the risk aversion vis a vis data loss of the business?
What is the risk aversion vis a vis uptime of the business?
What does the business picture as IT needs?
What do users picture as IT needs?
What technologies are they used to? -
Some of those don't seem to be Greenfield type question. Doesn't Greefield mean there is nothing there now?

No IT there now or what is there is trivial. Not that there is no company there now.
