It often comes up that I am involved in discussion servers and have to talk about the "enterprise server vendors." This is a place to document whom I consider to be on that list, what tier they are on, etc. This is a list of primary OEMs only and only general purpose server makers, not niche makers or specialty gear. Note that some of these make no commodity servers (e.g. IBM.) In bold are specifically applicable to the SMB market most commonly.

      Tier 1 Enterprise Server Vendors

      • Hewlett-Packard
      • Dell
      • IBM
      • Oracle
      • Fujitsu
      • Cisco

      Tier 2 Enterprise Server Vendors

      • SuperMicro

Due to security and integrity issues, I cannot in good conscious include Lenovo on the list.

SuperMicro is beginning to make the lines between Tier 1 and Tier 2 blurry as they increase their level of engineering on their products and begin to offer more and more enterprise class support for their products.
