@Hubtech Yup. I hate having too many devices. Phone and laptop. THAT'S IT! People ask why I didn't get a desktop. Simple answer? I HATE having two computers for the same thing. One at a client's and one at home is fine because it's segregated machines for segregated tasks/situations. One phone for everything. But having a laptop and desktop and trying to remember what files are on which machine, etc would drive me BATTY!!!

RE: Replacing old phone system
@NetworkNerd Agreed. Ok, so they still work on RJ-11s and not RJ-45s. Got it. I wasn't sure. Thanks for the explanation. So the NEC phone systems you see in retail, etc. Those are digital?

RE: Over documentation
@Awkward-Gamer I know what you mean. Now where I thought you were going with this at first. LOL
Anyways, I agree. Paperwork can be a pain. There is a line between CYA/good notes and just raw stupidity. Too bad most management don't know the difference. @minion-queen is an exception to that.

RE: Do you find a tablet useful for work?
@Katie Not exactly difficult. LOL
Now iPhones...yea, not going there... -
RE: Replacing old phone system
@NetworkNerd What is the difference between a digital phone and a VoIP phone?
-
RE: Do you find a tablet useful for work?
@Katie Wait, you have an Android phone?
So you're a Mac lady with an Android and @scottalanmiller is a Linux guy with an iPhone. There is something not right here... -
RE: Do you find a tablet useful for work?
Overall, they're toys. Ideal for planes.

RE: Do you find a tablet useful for work?
@Minion-Queen Eh, they're okay but not super practical. Depends on the application honestly. Someone AFK constantly they could be handy. But they are handier for travel. Computer or smartphone for me is generally the option. Tablets are a niche product IMHO.

RE: Replacing old phone system
@dashrender That is certainly doable. I'm just thinking for failover, etc. We have people who have phones that can't go down. Ever. Others have a one-hour tolerance, two, four, etc. Higher need for little to no downtime will increase cost and complexity to varying degrees. $150/phone seems to be a bit high but it depends on what they're selling. Digium did NOT invent Elastix. It's an open-source product. How did management react to hearing a number like 25K?

RE: What Wiki or other webserver to use for intranet site?
@dashrender You get Office for users and the web app versions with the E3. Lync too. Just a thought.

RE: What Wiki or other webserver to use for intranet site?
@Dashrender Have you look at Sharepoint on Office365?
-
RE: Replacing old phone system
@Dashrender Elastix would be a good solution. VoIP calls would probably still be decent even over Cat3 although just wow...
NTG can help if you want. What kind of uptime is required? Need to know for DR planning, etc. How many total phone numbers? I believe Digium has a Asterisk backend on a lot of their systems but I may be thinking of someone else. But 25K is ludicrous. -

For the classic rock and Spongebob fans out there, you'll love and recognize this.

@minion-queen I know Beyonce isn't your normal style (from what I know of you) but listen to that second one. I think you'll like it.

The other song I discovered by her last night that blew me away.

Haven't really listened to Beyonce before because first time I really heard anything by her it was about booty and not beautiful music. Well, she's actually an INCREDIBLE singer. What I'm listening to right now:
