      sarcasm/Its a joke

      I even tried running

      Sudo Copy Test.txt>comx

      i figured it out

      Copy test.txt \com?

Is the correct syntax, also Com ports are exclusive. SO Since Aloha was using it to run the printer, it wasn't going to print test.txt

This tells me that it's most likely an aloha problem because the Printer isnt printing different characters now .

Odd. I didn't realize that you're running a 'nix' OS. Isn't your printer mapped in /dev/ I believe that would be your destination and I don't remember the syntax. There's tons of Linux gurus here that would know.

just got first cup of Coffee, Following up with a few sites.

Hey - How do you send commands to printers on com ports - to test printing?

If you direct connect to com1, copy test.txt>prn I think.
I haven't done that in so many years, the last time I did it, I fell off my dinosaur

Our printers are direct connected to com 2 and com 3.
      when I tested with

      echo Hello >Com2

      I didn't get anything same for com 3 .

Hmmm. Make a something.txt with a message. Check your devices and see what the printer is named and what port it is connected to. If I remember correctly, the command is copy something.txt>prn or whatever your printer is named. You could do to the com port as well. If it was connected to your 1st parallel port it would be copy something.txt>lpt1. Why the name vs port, I can remember but I do know that it worked when we had impact printers.

      Talked to a customer today....

"No, we want nothing to do with the 'complication' of virtualization." What we want is simply 13 physical servers all in a single blade enclosure, all six years old, deployed new and set up on bare metal.

This is what happens when you let developers pretend to be IT people. New purchases of six year old systems, thirteen of them when two would do just fine, blades instead of normal servers. So much cost, so much risk, and they were angry that we thought that they should consider virtualization. They were even considering not doing RAID!

So, are they still a customer?

      Money is money.

And grief is a bloody mess

What really got me hooked was the Tex Murphy series. Gumshoe dramedy with a kind of screwup antagonist.

Those are so cool. I have all of those too!

They had a kickstarter last year or the year before and got something like a million dollars to make a new one. I haven't bought it yet. Too busy lately. It's on my list.

I have the one from that πŸ™‚

      Verdict???

Pretty cool, same actor as the original!

@WrCombs If you're using serial / RS232, I'm guessing that your driver might be outputting in ASCII and might need to be set to ANSI or from 8 bit to 7 bit. Check these against other sites and see what you come up with. The repeated characters are representations of solid lines or simple graphics via the various protocols.

At least I've run into this before with a telnet app that we use here.

@WrCombs Fuel dispensers are also still using RS-232. If you pull up to a fuel station, the ads playing on the screen are delivered on two wires -- kinda modem to modem. Honestly, our serial devices are very reliable, although you can lose the TV screens in fuel dispensers for all I care.

the past year. I'm interested to see if it fits with our refresh coming up. Right now, all options are on the table.

It is nice to have, but depends of your budget and what you have. What do you have?

Just a local backup target. Nothing offsite.

@scotth My workstation at work is kvm with fedora under it. I use windows 10 and opensuse vm's under it through virtual machine manager. It works very smooth and never had a bit of trouble.

I never tried OpenSuse. After I get this going, I'm going to setup Hyper-V on my brother's server. I may give it a go. He's running Kodi on Windows which works fine. I want to setup a Kodi only box and feed it out. I'm doing this at home on XCP-ng and it works great. I use the Emby addon and it streams beautiful to anything in the house no matter the original resolution.

You don’t have to use Fedora just because some of us prefers it.

I get that. I've tried CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian and Mandrake. Thought I'd try the latest IT darling. I'm nowhere near good with Linux. I need to practice with something that I can get a lot of examples of, like those here.

      I'm fond of Fedora, yes.

Just don't use Ubuntu, unless you're a masochist.

Sounds good. I pulled down the ISO for server. I'm going to load something this weekend. Hopefully, I'll be able to get something going by next weekend.
