RE: Remote Screen Blank in Ubuntu 22.04 | Switch Wayland to Xorg
@scottalanmiller said in Remote Screen Blank in Ubuntu 22.04 | Switch Wayland to Xorg:
If you update to a recent version of Ubuntu, especially Ubuntu 22.04 you will likely have remote access tools like MeshCentral, RDP, Remote Desktop, ScreenConnect, ConnectWise, LogMeIn, and others stop working.
This is generally because Ubuntu has switched from using Xorg by default to using Wayland and changes which is used during the upgrade process. Normally all we have to do is change it back.
vi /etc/gdm3/custom.conf
Edit this file and Ubuntu has handily included a commented out line for us:
[daemon] # Uncomment the line below to force the login screen to use Xorg #WaylandEnable=false
Just remove the comment mark, the pound sign (hashtag for the youngsters), save and reboot. Voila.
[daemon] # Uncomment the line below to force the login screen to use Xorg WaylandEnable=false
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the previous version allow you to switch window managers at the login? I seem to remember that from a year or two ago.

RE: Gaming - What's everyone playing / hosting / looking to play
I'm all about point & click adventure games. The 1st one I played was King's Quest 6.

RE: Unattended remote access utility/ computer
MeshCentral has a router app that works nicely via relay. I have at least one PC at each site and the router allows me to connect to most anything at our sites. It's worth a look.

RE: Gaming - What's everyone playing / hosting / looking to play
What really got me hooked was the Tex Murphy series. Gumshoe dramedy with a kind of screwup antagonist.

RE: Remote Access software with good dual monitor support
Mesh Central. I connected easily and could choose both or either screens.

sarcasm/Its a joke
I even tried running
Sudo Copy Test.txt>comx
i figured it out
Copy test.txt \com?
Is the correct syntax, also Com ports are exclusive. SO Since Aloha was using it to run the printer, it wasn't going to print test.txt
This tells me that it's most likely an aloha problem because the Printer isnt printing different characters now .
Odd. I didn't realize that you're running a 'nix' OS. Isn't your printer mapped in /dev/ I believe that would be your destination and I don't remember the syntax. There's tons of Linux gurus here that would know.
excuse my noobness - What is a "Nix" OS?
Anything linux.
I'm running Windows 10..
Ahh. My mistake

US jobless rate at lowest since 1969
The US unemployment rate dropped to its lowest level for more than 49 years in April, according to official figures.
The jobless rate fell from 3.8% to 3.6%, the US Labor Department said, the lowest rate since December 1969.
Does this report count those who are "unemployed" the same way in both time frames?

Unemployment is a very "soft" concept at the best of times. Even just defining who is and isn't unemployed amongst your friends is hard. Do you count part timers? Retirees? Children? Consultants? Entrepreneurs? The lazy? Students? What about people with jobs created only to make them not appear unemployed? The rich? The poor?
I'm not defending any specific method. I mention it because I've seen apples to apples comparisons mentioned here, defended to the death and thought that I'd point out that there have been more 'corrections' introduced to the definition of unemployed more times that I could possible count and maintain any kind of sanity.
Part of the complexity is that over time the socially accepted concept of unemployment changes. In 1960, an 18 year old that isn't working is unemployed. Today, a 25 year old that isn't working is "just a kid, we can't expect them to start a job yet." Who we feel should and shouldn't be employed has changed dramatically in that time.
And then for a publication to report the condition of something that appears to be very ambiguous without stating the importance of these variances and how to interpret them is not exactly above board, imho. A lot of folks will take that statement as fact without thinking of how evolved the term unemployment actually is.

Better busy than bored.
yeah and I'm troubleshooting why a terminal keeps losing connection to the master terminal and causing me this headache, Its an intermittent problem.
If you're going through a dumb switch, it could be flaky / failing. Move to another port. If it stabilizes, replace it.

Hopefully my mower will start too, lawn is out of control.
I got a battery powered pusher. Starts every time as long as some idiot doesn't forget to charge the batteries. Me and the gas powered one didn't get along... at all.
huh - you clearly didn't have a honda engine then.
I had a lawn mower where it tried to eat a chain, and lost... bend the crank shaft - vibrated like hell, but still ran for another 3 years before I just gave it away.
I just bought a Toro, self propelled, personal pace <<you gotta try this if you haven't, fold up vertical stowaway. Best walkbehind I've ever owned. $400 at Lowes
I had replaced the bent shaft mower with a Craftsman Honda motor self propelled - loved it, til I just decided I didn't want to do it anymore, and now have a service take care of my lawn.
I want to be just like you when I grow up.
I've got the know how and the desire to take care of mine... just apparently not the time.
Amen. As I say when asked by the wise man, I don't need to read the book or wait for the movie, I'm living it.

Anyone else in Eastern US having Internet issues? Seems we are ok in Buffalo, NY but some of our sites are having sporatic connection issues; can't get to websites, VPN tunnels dropping, etc. My guess would be a peering issue between Spectrum and Verizon but can't prove it yet and can't get to DownDetector from either of my connections to verify
Windstream was having issues in the Perry Ohio area over the weekend. Don't ask how I know
I deliberately omitted Windstream. My fingers catch fire when I type it.

And now... today's 'holy shit' guitar piece (actually 2 separate songs)... Steve Howe performing "The Clap" and "Mood For a Day" live on stage. Simultaneously makes me want to practice more and quit playing guitar. Truly the upper echelon of guitar playing.
One of the best 'YouTube' concerts imho.
YES Union Tour
I think I read somewhere that Rolling Stone took him off of the top 100 guitarists list. Tragic. -

In the 80s, I worked with their former pilot before they broke up the 1st time. They had a Gulfstream G1, what was at the time a large, business class, twin engine turboprop. -

just got my third "Hey come talk to us about a job" in the last 2 weeks.
Enjoy being wanted.
it kinda came out of no where too.
I just getting a LinkedIN wasn't a bad idea eh?LinkedIn communications tend to be better than stuff from Monster, etc. The latter usually results in calls about developer positions, while my resume has zero development experience listed.
I see both like that. Not that I've used Monster in a decade, but every LinkedIn hit is something random and unrelated.
I especially like the ones from another country
