I dont think you can sfc/scannow from the recovery console.
What are the export options for Hyper-V? Is ova not an option?
You are getting the 0x7b error which seems to be common recently on these export/import operations.
If you boot the vm with the 2008r2 dvd mounted as first boot device and boot to it, you will eventually get to the Repair your Computer option. This is the same as Startup repair but from the dvd instead of the hdd recovery console. If you do this, it will scan for existing Windows installations. If it finds one it will then attempt auto repair. 'Attempting repairs... blah blah" and then probably, "Windows was unable to automagically repair your computer". When it does this, click on the details(i think it is actually 'view detailed diagnostic info' or somethign) and scroll through that huge list of things it checked. Most of them will say 0x0 which means no problems. There will be one thing that has a different code; this is where the problem lies. Usually this is a corrupt file or missing file that Windows has marked as required for booting.
Though with the 7b error the above might be moot if the boot process is interrupted before all that.

What is the condition of other traditional pbx vendors? Are they all in or near dire straits as well?

I'm just waiting for the crazy logo thing like in Swordfish - then the 3d graphics of cubes merging to make a worm...
I still have yet to see swordfish. My late friend recommended it to me. I just haven't ever had a chance to follow up on that.
Its one of the worst movies ever made.

RE: Call cost research
We have a hosted voip it is about 600/month for 40 users, works with softphones and no call limits. Even works for our Sales guys in Europe and Pakistan. A bit too much i suppose, but i didnt set it up and mgmt is happy we arent paying for 50 POTS any more, because that was thousands a month.
We also still unfortunately have 3 pots lines from C-Link at a cost of 300/month or so. We need these to dial in to some old equipment our customers still need support on. I think the cost/month/line includes unlimited long distance calling.

RE: Linux and Windows argument
@op's question:
So now what do you do? If I drop completely to Linux - something like this would become a rather annoying event. As someone that has five iPads (in use), four iPods and two iPhones, that could get damn right perturbing.Stop using Apple products would be my answer. Though you seem to be in too deep already.

RE: Is PPTP EAP-MSCHAP v2 (128) considered safe and secure for VPN ?
Bringing back memories at my last job from 2008
security bulletin ms chap v2
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security/2743314.aspxhttps://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2744850/implementing-peap-ms-chap-v2-authentication-for-microsoft-pptp-vpns
If youre using PEAP MS CHAP v2 you should be ok.
Though theres no security bulletins, it might be because nobody uses this anymore and therefore nobody is looking to exploit it. -

RE: Windows Server 2003 P2V adventures

RE: Windows Server 2003 P2V adventures
Hmmm.
Ok if you can get the thing to boot with Hiren's, what does your windows say the cpu count is when that happens?
Have you tried Safe Mode yet? -
RE: Windows Server 2003 P2V adventures
Oh i just noticed. Did this physical server have more than 1 cpu or 1 cpu core? Your vm is setup as only 1 vcpu. This could be a problem.
If it only had the one cpu... a bit incredible it can read just fine but wont boot. Long shot, but do you have a win2k3 cd/dvd? can you load that and try a Repair Installation? Like the days of yore with xp, that option worked wonders for me fixing things like this.edit: server not vm

RE: Windows Server 2003 P2V adventures
Have you tried doing the same sort of process you did with your 2k8 server the other day? Are you able to load the registry at all?

RE: Error Demoting Domain Controller
@wirestyle22
It might not exist 'for real' anymore but your AD thinks it does, somewhere.
You have to find the reference to it within the depths of AD and get rid of it.
