RE: Last chance for a free Windows 10 upgrade
Well, im pretty sure the upgrade process runs their mrt.exe at some point. I think i ran MalwareBytes beforehand. Also, it is not my computer or a work computer so no i really dont care.
I told them that too, and theyre ok with it. I would have told them to get a new laptop, but this one has an old core2 duo and 6GB RAM so still very useable. -
RE: Last chance for a free Windows 10 upgrade
nah, took maybe ten minutes of me thinking and restarting the upgrade to 10. would have been hours reinstalling all their applications.

RE: Last chance for a free Windows 10 upgrade
They didnt want to lose all their stuff.

RE: Last chance for a free Windows 10 upgrade
You cant upgrade from Vista to 10 directly, so there had to be a 7 install in there somewhere. before i told them to buy 7 i tried to just install 7 and then upgrade to 10, but it wanted a key for 7 before it would allow me to do that.

RE: Last chance for a free Windows 10 upgrade
User brought in their Dell Studio 17" laptop the other day. With Vista. I told them they had to buy Windows 7 then i would do the rest. Upgraded to 7, Windows 10 kept stalling out at 99% on the first part of the upgrade. Turning off Windows update, deleting the first failed Windows BT and ~Q folders fixed the issue next time i ran the upgrade. that was an hour ago.

RE: iscsi target Path configuration
Im just posting some stuff about iscsi as i test this new storage server i built.
I built an iscsi target initially with the type=fileio rather than blockio
During tests(moving vm disks between storage systems) i noticed incredibly slow write speeds. Hit a max of 20MB/sec with a 4 disk Raid10 software array, and was sad.So then i thought about changing it to type=blockio in the target declaration file.
doing that doubled my write speeds to 40-45MB/sec. I think ive got an explanation why, but some here would know for sure. -

RE: Newegg just added all these super expensive socket 2011 cpus...
Last night i was reading a comparison between the e7-8xxx xeons and the POWER8 and thought it was awesome. Then i saw the prices and realized i would probably never get a chance to use them at work or at home.

WANT
was looking at some 2011 cpus to build a home xen lab, something a bit more server-y than my 4930k(though that cpu is a beast).
18 cores, 45M cache, only costs $12k after taxes. Also there are 16 and 14 core versions of this for far less money. Did lenovo/hp buy up all these from Intel years ago and are now getting rid of them? I never saw these back in socket 2011's heyday. I totally would have bought one. -
RE: Disable folder redirection for specific users
That setting in Computers> Policy>Admin>System>Group Policy loopback processing mode seems... weird. You could probably just make 2 policies one with the redirection enabled, one with disabled, and apply one each to a different OU that you make.
-
RE: Disable folder redirection for specific users
Is your user account linked to the User Config GPO? That will override the computer gpos.

RE: Which of the 16 Are You?

INTJ, the rarest and best one
Is that you?
Yeah, the joke is that INTJ's are full of themselves, and therefore think theirs is the best. I'm INTJ and my wife is ESFP, which is opposite on every quadrant. We read up on the matching of that pairing in marriage and it said "this pairing is so rare as to be of only academic interest"
INTJ, i agree.
