@scottalanmiller Got the server correctly interfacing with the drive in RAID0, and apparently why it refused to work with the USB's and the BIOS was messing up, was apparently that it was trying to flash itself from the second one, while using the first as boot media? I don't know, but it was probably my fault. Now, though, that the HDD has been set up, it isn't recognizing the USB as boot media. Any suggestions? I don't know my way around servers really all that well, plain and simple.

Don't start thinking of it as a server. It is a PC just like any PC. All PCs are the same. It has a BIOS, it has drive(s), it has USB ports. For all intents and purposes, it is a desktop. There is nothing on your end that makes it behave differently because it is a server. Server vs. desktop is a human naming concept, not a technical one.

But the BIOS is all wonky, there's a ton of different levels of nonsensical text, and configuration menus that have nothing to do with their nomenclature.

@coliver It recognized it as a boot device, all the way up to getting the HDD setup.

Are they plugged into one of those USB adapters that plug into the motherboard instead of the ones soldered onto the motherboard?

Both front panel and rear IO panel connectors do it.

@nadnerB Saitek Cyborg RAT 7, and Corsair K70. But, I tried a few other mice, including ones that worked with the system yesterday, and they now do it... I can only assume it was the Windows 10 update?

    • Keyboard and Mouse eating up CPU?

So I'm on Windows 10, and I'm having a very big problem... Every time there's any input from my Keyboard or Mouse, my CPU usage jumps from very standard levels of 3%-8%, all the way up until it pegs at 100%. Can anyone help? The drivers for both devices have been installed and uninstalled, as the same thing happened either way,

@Mike-Ralston is on it too currently.

My Windows 8.1 rig just died (motherboard failure) and I'm now using the Windows 10 machine as my work PC. Still no complaints.

System restore I think. With him you never know though.

Maybe he pulled new RAM out of somewhere we won't discuss. Who knows? LOL

What ACTUALLY happened, is my system died. Motherboard failure by the looks of it, but I won't have time to fully troubleshoot until tomorrow evening. Thank goodness I just built myself a Mini-ITX PC a few days ago, I'm now able to use that as a work PC until that one is revived.

And if lack of sleep is a contest, I've gotten like 6 hours for the whole week 😛

@scottalanmiller Well, it's after hours, and I still have more work for later tonight. I'll retrofit a caddy to put it in the correct slot in the morning, just for the sake of it. That doesn't work, I'll reflash the BIOS.

@Dashrender The install itself is failing. And it still is, even with the hard-drive. That's to be expected, though, I loaded a harddrive into what's electrically either the 3rd or 9th slot. I can't get into the BIOS to change the RAID configuration, though.

@Dashrender Virtual Drive - Using a USB as a Storage device. AKA, using not just as a 1-time boot media, but using it to effectively replace the HardDrive. @scottalanmiller Can I just toss in a HardDrive from a dead NTG machine? An 80gb will do fine if an 8gb USB will.

@scottalanmiller XenServer works up until the point of selecting which drive to install on. It then says that Virtual Drives is not enabled, and tells me to go to BIOS to enable it. The Dell AutoInstall in the UEFI, does fine up until you select where to install the media, and it says that Virtual Drives is either not enabled, or not supported.

Oh, this is new information. It is XenServer telling us this? We've been trying to diagnose the Dell hardware up until now. This might be a XenServer issue.

Dell Hardware AND XenServer are telling us this.
