RE: Anyone figured out how to ZeroTier with AD?
@scottalanmiller so we have finally got the Microsoft Non-Profit entitlement for Office done. They did hit me with a "gotcha" that I can't use Google as a storage point for the free version, smdh. I would prefer to deploy all Chromebooks, let them use office 365 but have access to google storage. Training people is going to become a hard one. I had the fun of training 6 nurses (all over 50) on being my trial run of taking a team and moving to the Google Sphere lol. Took a few months but they are getting the hang of things and finally, are seeing some shine. All the students at a rate of about 99% use Chrome OS, that 1% is for times they have to go to another lab which only has windows pcs in it. The students pick up fast for about 80% of everything you show them. These are underserved sometimes less computer-savvy students.
It's going to be hard to teach some of the staff to consider using Microsoft OneDrive vs Google Drive vs local server vs their local desktop/flash drives.
I have given up on ZT at the moment. While I got it to work with pretty much any device (without needing AD), getting the AD to work reliably has been a battle. I kinda do miss the AD Client from Pertino.
I'm met with a dilemma in that I have 3 offices (and potentially more offices to come) that I want to link up to one AD controller vs having one at each site managed separately.

RE: IT Helps the Business; Does Management Agree?
I disagree on the idea that magement shouldn't understand IT. We shouldn't expect them to have a Ph.D. in IT and all the various flavors but they should be able to comprehend what's going on at a basic level.

Question about UBNT Bridge Performance vs SFP
When using any Ubnt router, and using one of the bridged ports to connect to my switch, does this in itself create a performance bottleneck vs using a separate SFP to connect to said switch? I've read that enabled the "virtual bridge" drops performance by about half.

RE: Anyone figured out how to ZeroTier with AD?
It "kinda" started creating the profile and ended up giving me a "black hole" where it will never login completely and keep spinning. So I've tried now flushing the dns on the laptop making sure I adjust the host file right cause I didn't do it right the first go round.

RE: Anyone figured out how to ZeroTier with AD?
It fooled me for a moment but didn't work either. Either this isn't all the steps you used or there is something else in play that I'm not aware of.

Ok lets walk through this so I can make sure I'm duplicating what you did. You stated you took the IPv6 of the DC and put it into the IPv6 of the laptop. You put the IPv6 in the AD/DNS server into the DNS settings I'm assuming on the NIC? Did you statically assign your IP of the laptop?

RE: ZeroTier + Active Directory Authentication
@JaredBusch how did you setup your NIC for the workstation that had to remote into the AD via ZeroTier? I'm still trying to figure out exactly what was statically assigned as your post wasn't too clear for me (this is new to me).

@larsen161 can you point me to a link?

@scottalanmiller I would say over the decade Zoho information about their products has greatly improved. I've been following them for as long as I can remember. That being said, it's still one of my companies I keep on a shortlist because it's hard to deny they are good at what they do.

RE: Anyone figured out how to ZeroTier with AD?
Absolutely the "free" online version of Office works. On a side project, I'm trying to see if I can move over all users from our GoDaddy domain to Google (since we have it for the most part free) and save some coin. My director and various HR staff made horrible forms that exist in Word or Excel. My goal as been to remove Word or Excel even being a needed app except for certain positions and requirements. I personally can't get rid of Word in IT only because I have to use it to build templates for the Saas database we have. But short of that all my work doc wise is about 95% in Google. That 5% for me are those few docs that can't be done in Google without major changes.
See in the overall scheme of things, users just make data. Certain types of data make my job more annoying. If I remove the "needing to backup word docs and spreadsheets etc" from the equation that alone saves any company money on wasted MS Office purchases and also on data storage since its just a string of text from a database template vs a whole doc.

They come to class, use the device for studying, testing & research purposes and go home. No checking device out to go with you home.

We are a multi hat non-profit. We just so happen to be a post-secondary school too.

RE: Anyone figured out how to ZeroTier with AD?
Honestly, it's really for authentication. I'm not even sure I want to add a print server to them. At best right now they will have 3-4 printers. They won't ever need a file server. Most work is done via SaaS services. Honestly if we didn't have some jacked up forms built to only work in MS Office, then I'd say the hell with Windows for those users. It's really not even needed.

RE: Anyone figured out how to ZeroTier with AD?
LOL I see why more schools say "F" windows and go straight to Chrome OS.

RE: Anyone figured out how to ZeroTier with AD?
So you're suggesting to throw ZeroTier out of the equation (since we're dealing with AD) and then setup L2TP on each router (Site A and Site C) and each client (only a handful of clients for staff but for students maybe a bit of a headache).
