RE: Internet woes, Comcast interconnects?
Can't you get a fiber circuit from someone? We were able to get WindScream fiber in our one dsl branch office. Yes I know Windstream ranks right up there with comcrap but the speed made the difference and we got them to waive construction costs.

Catching up from a week off, realizing didn't get a thing done i wanted to whiel on vacation (as is usually the case, kids in the swimming pool take priority over freepbx installs)

RE: 8 port FXO gateway needed
Audiocodes comes to mind MP-118 I think has an 8FXO option, probably over budget.
Other option I can think off the top of my head is to see if AdTran has something. Total Access have an option of 8FXO but you have to get the very high end model (924e I think) and is probably also over budget. -
RE: What Are You Doing Right Now

Asterisk PBX so many choices, where to begin?
So while on vacation I will have some time to start "playing" with Asterisk based PBX options, more for my own education than anything. Being a linux Noob (thanks @scottalanmiller for your excellent education series, saved my butt a couple times) and coming from Lync/Skype4Business, I'm looking for the "best" direction of PBX software to broaden my horizons. Install will be a local VM on my test server@home with 2 or 3 Polycom Soundpoint IP hard phones and whatever softphone I can get to work. What dist would be a good starting point? I found a old thread comparing Elastix to FreePBX (https://mangolassi.it/topic/5151/elastix-or-freepbx-and-why) but definitely dated as Elastix 4 is out. I have also found things like Xvio/IncrediblePBX (care of the Nerd Vittles website). I am leaning towards FreePBX as that seems to be what everyone is running for production systems. Let me know your thoughts and thanks in advance for replying!

RE: Portable Mesh Network Project
Just before my second son came along, I was playing with a ham project called HSMM-MESH. http://www.broadband-hamnet.org/. We got it working with some of the older Ubiquiti Bullet style devices and one WRT54g router that was the "main" (if you will) unit for Field Day back 2 years ago. Sadly I have not kept up on the project and sold all my gear as it was collecting dust so it may be a dead product now. There is a more updated fork called Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network that I have not followed but does use Ubiquiti gear. http://www.aredn.org/

@DustinB3403 I live right around the corner from the "original" Duff's. Not a fan though, too much vinegar in their sauce

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
so on top of my Windstream H-E Double Hockey Sticks, we lost 1 phase of our building power at 1:30 AM. UPS kicked in but that gave us ony 1/2 hour uptime and of course we don't have a standby generator. Been here all night re-routing power on extension cables to get the office back up and running on the remaining phases. Power company has no idea how we blew the phase out. On the plus side, the move to a colocation facility just got accelerated!

RE: Letchworth State Park
Letchworth is truly the hidden gem of tthe NYS parks. We always go to the Portageville side, I believe its called the Parade Ground entrance. You are not charged on that side of the park. Very quiet section, not many hikers. One trail takes you to the bridge at Lower Falls, Another trail takes you right up to Middle and High falls along part of what was once the Genesee Valley RailRoad right of way, and down to the river edge by the very old (1875) trestle train bridge. The trail by the bridge is closed now as they are building a new arch style bridge to replace the trestle bridge currently there.

RE: What Does Western NY Look Like?
@scottalanmiller Was just there, Sis-in law was camping at Letchworth so we visited for 1/2 a day. Sad time as we found out later a couple hikers died when a family went off trail.
