RE: Create isolated (wired) LAN for Guest Room?
@Dashrender Excellent. Going to order the router and UAP now. Thanks, again to all who helped me get going.

@Dashrender That's what I'll do! Thanks.

RE: Create isolated (wired) LAN for Guest Room?
@JaredBusch Tell me if I'm wrong, but can't I just plug a wi-fi router or AP into one of the LAN ports?

RE: Create isolated (wired) LAN for Guest Room?
@Dashrender Yes, it looks like I just need to wade in there and give it a whirl.

@Dashrender Thanks. I sent you a message of appreciation.

@JaredBusch Okay. Thanks. How much harm can I do? For fifty bucks, I'll give it a shot.

RE: Create isolated (wired) LAN for Guest Room?
@JaredBusch Thanks. I don't want to assume, so do you think an intelligent person can configure the Ubiquiti using its on line tutorial/manual? AS I mentioned earlier, I could pay someone, but would like the challenge of figuring it out.

@DustinB3403 Okay. Let's just assume I'm starting with nothing but the modem and ethernet cables running through my walls. What's the best setup, given my initial inquiry?

RE: Create isolated (wired) LAN for Guest Room?
@DustinB3403 Not sure. The router improved quality of wi-fi calls, but I guess t-mobile doesn't want anyone reconfiguring it.

RE: Create isolated (wired) LAN for Guest Room?
@DustinB3403 No, but it has a small home theater system with a roku box. It's much more stable with a wired connection.

Does the router he has offer the capabilities he'd need for this? I've never used anything from T-Mobile so I have no idea..
I have no clue, but for $60 you get something awesome.
It's an Asus router -- AC-68U -- which has been DD-WRT disabled by T-Mobile. I have and can purchase other routers. I want to run the Tmobile router on the home network becasue its tuned for wi-fi calling. Not essential to keep if I can't use it. I'd heard the Ubiquiti router was a good one. My other router is an ASUS TM-AC1900

RE: Create isolated (wired) LAN for Guest Room?
@JaredBusch Is this something a bright person without a whole lot of network customization experience could set up? I'm up for the challenge -- set up my own home network. If so, what is the recommended hardware, and a resource for doing the customiazation?

@DustinB3403 We occasionally rent it out for AirBnB, and have friends of our children stay in it.

Create isolated (wired) LAN for Guest Room?
I set up my current home network: Arris Docsis 3.0 Surfboard Modem with T-Moble Asus Router. I want to provide a wired connection for my guests that will NOT be able to get into my main network. I know how to create guest wi-fi access, but want to do this over ethernet.
What's the best -- and easiest way to do this? Looking into buying a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X. I'm no IT/newtworking genius, but always managed to teach myself what I need to get the job done.
Thanks.
