@momurda said in Where do you see Microsoft in 5, 10, and 15 years?:

In 15 years MS is a desiccated rotting husk of its former self, with revenues less than 50% of what they were in 2010. Most of those revenues will be 5-10 employee SMBs who "need Office" as the enterprise customers will be leaving in droves by 2025. And they'll still be trying to sell their mobile OS, only it will be on its 30th iteration and 30th name since 2006, and still have less than 1% market share. Their CEO will constantly be having press conferences about how relevant they are, esp in mobile space. You will see all sorts of expensive commercials showing people how cool their new stuff is, but nobody in the real world will actually use it.

That is pretty much what I was thinking

SQL Server is the crown jewel. Exchange would be a big deal.

SQL is definitely their best product.

@Dominica said in Slideshow wordpress theme:

Does anyone know the name of a wordpress theme where the whole page is a slideshow of images with information on them?

You can make a page like that using a slider plugin like revolution slider. All you need to do is create a blank page and add the shortcode of the slider(s) on the page.

If Windows stops becoming the number one choice of business users, Microsoft will be damaged very badly. They cannot lose that market. They would lose consumers, servers, and pretty much all their OSes. Windows is in top of the operating system space is because it is seen as the standard for the majority of users. If they don't use Windows at work, they will stop using it at home. Applications will stop relying on windows since it is no longer than standard and in turn it would not be used in new servers as often.

What I really want is for the whole page to be a slider, not just a slider inserted into the page. In other words, I want a full width image that slides to several images.

You can design the slider anyway you want. You can breaks in the slider itself and it will appear seemless. It also supports different links in different areas of the same slider.

    • RE: Compressing an OVF using OVFTool by VMWare

From what I am reading now, it appears that the OVF uses compression level 5. It is possible to gain extra compression by using a tool like 7 zip but the gains are very minimal. On a 4GB VM you may see it drop to 3.9GB if you compress it again using 7zip. The minor gain isn't worth having to compress it twice IMO.

    • RE: One Server -2 NICs, Different IPs

As much as I am against downtime, I might unplug the second NIC. If there is an issue, it just needs to be plugged back in. If there isn't an issue for a month, you can team the NICS.

If you don't really see any traffic on the second NIC. So what is the actual risk? perhaps downtime, but all you need to do is plug it back in if there is an issue.

    • Cannot setup Google Drive on NextCloud

I am following the instructions here:

      https://docs.nextcloud.com/server/9/admin_manual/configuration_files/external_storage/google.html

I have created oAuth 2.0 Credentials in the developer console many times and this seems pretty standard. I am following the instructions and setup my redirect URIs just like the NextCloud guide.

When trying to connect I am getting:

      Here is my configuration:

@IRJ said in Cannot setup Google Drive on NextCloud:

Unfortunately I am using a hosted CPanel install of NextCloud. Which means my host has restricted large uploads from their level and changing the htaacess file and user.ini file in Nextcloud has no effect.

So I pretty much have to have Google. I was able to setup Dropbox within seconds, but they only give free users 2GB. Google gives you 15GB and 100GB for $2.99 a month.

So you do not have access to your php settings file? Could you ask them to increase that limit? Seems like a standard thing.

Also, vultr.com offers a full VPS and 50GB of storage for $5/month, might think about going that way if the current host is so limited.

Yes, but I only need 7GB and I don't think I will go over 10GB. So the 15GB google drive will be free.

    • RE: Help With Resume

Google Drive is blocked here so I cannot see your full resume, but from the images @scottalanmiller posted, I see alot of fluff for entry level stuff...

The 5 month consulting job can be summed up in 2 bullet points:

      • Managed Desktop and laptops for residential customers. Some of my tasks include troubleshooting, purchasing, repairs, and new deployments
      • Deployed (Always sounds better than Installed) and Managed Trend Micro Security Products including Worry-Free Business Manager and Worry Free Remote Manger.

Nobody cares about setting up accounts so I would either completely remove that information or phrase it in a way that is more impressive.

Instead of saying Setup accounts for new hire

      • Active Directory duties include user management, GPOs, group membership management, file permission management, etc.

Now make the font for Skills and Employment just a tad later. They get lost in with the other headers. Or add a line underthem. Something to break up the page.

My capitalization and pluralization are wrong in a few places (see last bullet point)

So wife showed my resume to her boss and she suggests I add this:

Results driven professional offering a progressive, 17 year career in information technology.
Expertly manage technical support operations and troubleshooting issues to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
Process improvement champion researching ways to strengthen security, enhance efficiency, and control costs.

I want to sell myself but don't want to sound over confident. Thoughts?

I agree with @scottalanmiller . It is fluff, but having the 17+ years experience statement on top of the resume helps. I do something similiar with my resume. All the other stuff is just fluff though. @alex-olynyk let me know if you would like to see my resume via pm.

You can have that and keep it very lean. Something like...

17 year IT Pro focused on scalable web hosting and SQL Server databases.

That is how mine is setup. One small sentence.

I'm okay with that. Just enough to be like "this is who I am." Definitely don't say "what you are looking for" though, that's the worst.

The main purpose is to calculate the years so whoever is reviewing the resume doesn't have to do the math.
