That's what I wanted to hear, means we may be able to defer (if that's the term) buying new CAL's until we are migrating the VM's to 2019. Would it matter how the CAL's were purchased (I'm trying to track how/when/what at the moment)

Apple Card can be damaged by wallets and jeans
Apple has advised owners of its new credit card to keep it away from leather and denim.
Keeping the card in a leather wallet or in the pocket of a pair of jeans could cause "permanent discolouration". -

OK so take this as an example.
Server A license 2012 Datacentre
300 2012 User Cals
2012 DC VM & 2012 App/FileServerWe are migrating to new hardware
Server B 2019 Datacentre
Migrate the two VM's (So staying with 2012)
Do I need to purchase new CAL's? Or will the others transfer because the VM's are the same?Or is it a case the CAL's only need replacing when we upgrade or install a VM to 2019?

It's not really, license every user, every device or some combination based on the workload.
But what if you some device Cal's and are getting a new server that has 2019 data centre license.
Do I need to relicense everyone?*Should add I'm going to (when I have time over the next few days) review what we bought and type of license qty. Then look at how many devices/users we have. Then look at our RDS environment and again look at what we have and what we need.

RE: HCI vendors: software or hardwareposted in IT Discussion
Slightly off the topic but related to HCI
Would people consider having a cluster at site 1 then another cluster (maybe smaller) at site 2 adequate for DR?
As to me that's like having a off-site server for backup?Or would you still look at another layer of backup/DR
We are looking at a hardware refresh and HCI is winning thank god

.
(In my view Scale is top, but always has. Then HPe Simplivity 2nd) -

Biostar security software 'leaked a million fingerprints'
More than a million fingerprints and other sensitive data have been exposed online by a biometric security firm.
Researchers working with cyber-security firm VPNMentor managed to access data from a security tool called Biostar 2.According to VPNMentor, the exposed data, discovered on 5 August, was made private on 13 August.
It is not clear how long it was accessible.
As well as fingerprint records, the researchers say they found photographs of people, facial recognition data, names, addresses, passwords, employment history and records of when they had accessed secure areas. -
RE: Spec'ing a new computer from Dell or?posted in IT Discussion
on the i5 vs i7 I can't really comment as never really used i7's.
I've got a i7 7th gen now and I can't honestly say its any quicker than the i5 7th Gen I had.But then I only do day to day stuff, E-mail, Microsoft Office, E-mail, Internet. Nothing that will hammer the cores.
Person here that normally sets-up new machines ready for employees has commented that the new i3 8th & 9th Gens run really quick (Installing stuff, loading programs etc) compared to the i5 5th & 6th Gen so we've started just buying newer i3's for office work.

I have news for you. Everyone's spying on you. Chinese companies/government , US companies/government , Russian government/companies, and any one else.
Why? Because it's extremely valuable. Data is the new oil. It's easy to deflect attention when you point at the other guy everytime he gets caught. It's a strategy used to make all sides feel like their right and it works. Fact is they've all been caught Alot!
Not going to get into politics or ethics or finger pointed but ^^^ this.
I take on all this is simple I'm thinking everyone is at it. All vendors in one way or another.
Just Huawei is high profile at the moment due to the 5G stuff and the backdoor was found lol. Just a matter of time before others are caught out -

Personally, I'd rather build it myself or buy from a local computer shop.
I don't see any advantages in buying a tower PC from Dell/HP/other big box unless you're into Bloatware, bloated drivers (HP), limited options, and over priced parts (Dell SSD upgrades).
Yes and No to this.
Personal machines, build myself as you get want you want.Business Machines.
Because for me, we don't have any local builders that I would trust as I know most and wouldn't want them to build anything
Also we buy Dell as we get 3yr On Site with all our machines.Yes we could build them in house but when issues arise it's easier to just log it with dell and leave them sort it

The big release is here. After about a month of QA on the Release Candidate, XCP-ng 8.0 is now available and can be safely used in production environments.
Been thinking of wiping and starting a fresh on my home lab. Maybe time to try XCP-ng again.
