I don't see that on GitHub. Looks pretty public. Once they publish it publicly, it's not under wraps anymore. A bit like a billboard telling people not to tell others about the billboard.

      rolls eyes

I'm confused. Are you saying that I'm being pedantic that they published this and somewhere that I don't see mentioned not wanting it to be public? Where did you come up with them saying that? And how is that supposed to work?

The announcement and all the discussion is locked away in a sign up only area of the forums. and of those signed up users, you have to opt into their T&Cs to read it.

      Pretty cut and dry.

Not discuss Beta features, results, and other topics anywhere but the official Beta forums or through direct email with Ubiquiti staff.

Whatever the reason they wanted to keep this under the hood for now, let's surely support the vendor by not doing what they did not want to happen.

@scale - When gov does it, you kind of roll your eyes, when a commercial tech company does it. You shake your head in disbelief.

Given the price of the Edge Router. Might as well do it at the 30-35 mark.

      @JaredBusch

I've never had an RMA issue, and I have sent back about 4 units since I started using them a couple years ago.
      Care to elaborate?

Because numerous forum posts on their own community cites complaints about the RMA process, some have waited months for replacement gear.

They are vastly cheaper than the majority because they put very little into support, they freely admit this publicly.

Given their atrocious track record with RMAs - The process must be a night mare for those who take up a leasing agreement.

Ubiquiti gear is cheap enough you can literally buy double and keep a spare on shelf but still.

Lots of factors there, I'm sure. The biggest question would be, I supposed, how fast would AetherStore be if only it were the bottleneck.

Mount store, run read/write speed test.

      Really easy to do.

LOL - AetherStore on 1 PC with only SSD will crush a small network of HDDs of AetherStore. So any numbers you get would be meaningless. You have to test it in your own environment.

      Pile of rubbish.

You post the stats of your environment with the test.

The test I did with AetherStore was on all SSD storage last year, the bottle-neck was very much the software with a write of 8 and a read of 20.

Sure, but your performance would still crush someone who is doing that same test on HDD.

Would it now? Or would it be identical because the hardware is not the bottleneck, it's the SDN tool.

But we'll have no flipping clue if nobody tests the product. I can't believe this is not already covered.

No, that would be a test of the hardware, not of AetherStore. That's not how you test software.

No...You'd do the exact same test whether its SDN or hardware based storage.

If you are measuring heat in a room, you don't care what the heating system is, you are only measuring the result.

What is the read write speeds of AetherStore on the mount point, a very measurable and provable figure.

The only reason I've not done it yet is because the test lab is being moved.

Speed: AetherStore is a robust, affordable and secure backup target that provides quick enough read times to serve its intended purpose well – reducing downtime, helping you meet RTO when the crunch is on.

Go on then, tell us the figures 🙂

Support from 3rd party, yes. Support from UBNT is email only still. So, that affects things for some.

      Is the Unifi line different?

Hugely different. EdgeMax Pro can do much more than the USG for example but the Unifi line gives you all of your devices from a single management tool with tracking and stats between devices seamlessly, also the alerts and reporting is good.

EdgeMax and other devices outside the Unifi range you have to treat like traditional stand alone devices but you get more performance and features as a result.

    • RE: Two ISP Fail over Internally vs Externally Fail over

I was just having a phone conversation with someone about this.

From an IT engineering point of view, we can do lots and lots of things in the UK quite cheaply to mitigate these, often automatically.

What it boils down to is how badly do you want a connection and are you serving resources from on-site as well?

If you plan and do it right, you can easily solve this without spending masses of money.
