That one is so full, I wonder if it filled up and failed.

what? / filled up? you mean 94%?

What is the none option there that is 1% free space?

6% is pretty small, could have filled up and cleared down.

I went in pretty clueless to make room on Xen2 yesterday. Should I look up that command again, or do you have something specific you'd like me to do?

Arg! What am I doing wrong with the dots that make it look like code for you?

not periods.. they are apostrophes, the character to the left of the 1 key normally.

      Boom! Thank you!

      That's not promising.

This is still all on Xen1. Do you want me to try anything on Xen2, the pool master?

      Do this on there, too..

      df -h

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
      /dev/sda2 4.0G 3.6G 238M 94% /
      none 373M 72K 373M 1% /dev/shm
      /opt/xensource/packages/iso/XenCenter.iso
                             52M 52M 0 100% /var/xen/xc-install

      Yes to both.

Once this crisis is over, I recommend going over this when you have free time.

      https://mangolassi.it/topic/7825/sam-learning-linux-system-administration

Its not complete but its a really good start.

Learning Linux has always been something I've wanted to do, but have never been able to find the time to do so in a work environment.

Are you making most of those trips alone? just you and the wife? the whole family?

It's a mix. My wife and I did Switzerland together in October, and Hong Kong together a couple weeks ago. Most domestic travel is together.

Check how your post was edited. There are "ticks" added before and after your log entry to make it appear as logs rather than as generic text.

It was already fixed. You broke it again 😉 The note was for you to look and see how to make logs appear correctly.

      Doh!

I'm seeing device errors on the local hardware in the log.

Can you include the output of:

@dominica and I are full time world travelers. Based in Dallas more than anywhere else in the US (own a home there) we've been living outside of the US for the last two years. Have been to 31 countries while living out of Spain, Panama, Nicaragua, Greece (Crete) and Romania. We leave for a week's vacation in Rome in 19 days and from there going to our new home in Noto, Siciliy.

I'll be in Venice for a couple of days mid-January, and taking the family to Rome for a week in mid-February.

      This was my 2016 travel. http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=dfw-clt-jfk-auh%2C+dxb-doh-bkk-hkg-hnd-sfo-dfw dfw-msy-dfw dfw-sfo-dfw dfw-lax-dfw dfw-las-dfw dfw-las-dfw dfw-san-dfw dfw-lax-hnd-sfo-lax-dfw dfw-lax-syd-sin-icn-sfo-dfw dfw-lax-syd-dfw dfw-lax-jfk-mia-pty-mia-jfk-lax-aus-dfw dfw-las-dfw dfw-yvr-phx-san-mia-pty-mia-dfw dfw-dca-dfw dfw-aus-dfw dfw-jfk-zrh-lhr-dfw dfw-lhr-cdg-dfw tyr-dfw-nrt-hkg-dfw-tyr&MS=wls&DU=mi

Wow, what was the length of time for all of that?

We will be in Italy, but very far away from you while there. Rome until Jan 22nd, then Sicily. Planning to ferry to Malta and Tunisia while there.

The first trip, DFW-CLT-JFK-AUH DXB-DOH-BKK-HKG-HND-SFO-DFW was the crown jewel of the year. First class on American, Etihad (The Apartments, if you're not familiar with it, google it and watch the YouTube video), Qatar Air, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines. 202k AA miles, and $170. About a day each in Dubai, Qatar, Hong Kong and San Fran. 3 days in Bangkok.

That's a very fast trip 🙂 How old are the kids? Do you do tons of travel for work?

That trip was 10 days total, if I recall. The one day visits were 20-23 hour stopovers, but the trip was as much about the F products as it was about the locations.

My daughter is 6. She didn't go on that one with me. She did London last year for Christmas, and Paris this year for Thanksgiving. Otherwise, her travel is domestic. Her #1 bucket list item is Beijing for the Great Wall.

I think that we need to look at the logs. Do you have access to get onto the machines themselves via SSH?

I'm logged into Xen2 with SSH now.

Great. Let's get as many logs as we can. Likely what we need to know is going to be in there. The logs are under /var/log

Forgive me for the basic knowledge, how do I access logs from here? The first time I did anything with the Xen CLI was yesterday.

This is a standard BASH environment. Nothing "Xen" needs to be known.

To get to the log directory:

      cd /var/log
      ls

That will list out the available logs.

Yeah, I've heard of BASH, but I've never used it. I've been fortunate enough (or unfortunate, as the case seems to be today) to have been in primarily GUI environments. Here's the screenshots of the log listings.

I haven't tried yet. Let me get a hold of putty.
